Anyone have experience with new fibromyalgia drug Tonmya that came Aug

Is Tonnya already prescribed by doctors?

I’ve taken cyclobenzaprine for years but carefully and sparingly. If I take it for several nights in a row I will for certain have several days of a bad flare. So I’m surprised to hear that it’s being used as a treatment.

@daisy17 We haven’t talked about taking it long term yet. I don’t foresee using it long term. I have EDS and some of my symptoms can be corrected with surgery. Right now I’m taking it as I need it to desensitize my brain and be able to get through the work week. 5mg is a low dose and I can take it in the morning too, as needed. Hope this helps

@jeanninec By making that change, the drug manufacturer can increase the price significantly because the new version won't be generic.

Tonmya (sublingual cyclobenzaprine) is priced at approximately $916.32 for 30 tablets, while the average cost of Flexeril (cyclobenzaprine), available as a generic, without insurance only costs about about $20 for a 30-tablet supply of the 10 mg dosage.

Hi,
I have fibro and ic. I went thru a series of bladder installations which helped. I take mibregon meds and uquora products. It’s managable but still have a lot of frequency, but no pain.

Tonmya is a reformulated version of the drug cyclobenzaprine (aka Flexeril) that has been on the market for years as a muscle relaxant. It's available as a low cost generic. Tonmya is that same drug reformulated to a lower dose (2.5mg I think) and taken subliminally rather than as a pill you swallow. By reformulating the drug, the drug company can charge lots more money (approximately $250 per month.). When I have a fibro flare, I take a 5mg tablet of cyclobenzaprine (lowest dose available) before bed. I think it helps with sleep and pain.

An article by Pradeep Chopra, MD (a Harvard-trained pain medicine specialist with over 25 years of experience treating complex chronic pain and multisystem disorders) said: "In summary, sublingual cyclobenzaprine (Tonmya) is essentially a repackaged low‑dose formulation of cyclobenzaprine, marketed as a novel drug through its patented delivery system. Its pharmacokinetic differences are small, its clinical benefit is modest and comparable to existing oral formulations, and its unique adverse effects may outweigh the theoretical advantage of reduced metabolite formation. Clinicians should therefore critically evaluate manufacturer claims and consider whether simple, low‑dose oral cyclobenzaprine would provide equivalent benefit at far lower cost."

I also take low-dose Naltrexone which has helped me tremendously. It has to be purchased from a compounding pharmacy and isn't covered by insurance. You slowly work up to a maintenance dose of 4.5mg. There are very few side effects and it takes a few months on the maintenance dose to notice results.

I think you mean sublingual which is under the tongue. Subliminal is by brain waves. So it’s an old drug to look new.

I skeptically decided to try one month myself. We all have to go thru a myriad of drugs and therapies. Which one will fit us is so varied. So i was about to give up and then at day 20 i felt better. Not cured but i think anything that hits over 30% less pain is a game changer. You take under tongue at night. It seems my body relaxes more so better nights rest. It is very expensive as Medicare doesn’t cover . Taking muscle relaxers has never helped me and that is why skepticism. I take 2.8 and know I would benefit if I took 2 tablets. But manufacturers say you must pay by the bottle. The Fibromyalgia Syndrome Association (www.fibromyalgia fund.org ) has the study with results, efficacy and treatment.
