spotting then bleeding after knee injection for injury

How long can I expect this bleeding to last? Kind of freaking out about it 😞

I am 10 years post menopausal and a few years ago I had a facet joint steroid injection at L5. Several days later it made me have a period for a week. The pain doctor recommended I go to my gynecologist as they hadn't heard of it before. After going gynecologist, getting an ultrasound, hysteroscopy and endometrial biopsy nothing was found. Better to be safe, but I believe as others have said it is a possible side effect.

I like the recommendation by your doctor, a good approach was taken, instead of wait and see.

Me too! I’m 70 and started bleeding after a cruise. I had gotten cortisone shots in my knees about a week or two before. I did see my primary and am scheduled for ultrasound and appointment with gyno just to be sure, but seems to be a side effect from shot

I had 2 Kenalog injections in my shoulder and about two weeks later I had what was very similar to a menstrual period. I am 65 and was away from town so went to urgent care where it was recommended that I have full gynecologic workup on my return...I did not make the connection to the steroid shot at the time but when I thought of it I contacted both my PCP and the provider of the injections and neither knew of any connection. Dr Google led me this group and some studies. It would have been great to know that it was a possibility so I wouldn't have been so worried . Sounds like it is important to rule out other sources regardless/ have an apptmt set up for next week . Grateful to find a community but doesn't foster a lot of confidence in the providers .

I have had bleeding like a period after knee injections. I had a hysteroscopy done and a D and C. Two benign polyps were removed. Is this a side effect or what?

Yes it is a side effect but most physicians aren’t aware of this because it’s not reported often . I have been through this for the past two years with lumbar steroids injections and at first i was really worried and then i connected the two because it was exactly 15 days after each shot . My gynecologist put me through all the tests ,ctscan , D&C ,ultrasound and lastly after the last one a biopsy. All came back normal . Then i found an article on line to confirm my belief so i took it to our pain clinic and showed the dr that does the back injections and he said he was aware of it but not that common . So i asked him how serious it is to bleed after and he said if all the tests are clear it should be ok . It’s all about the quality of life . I am having another shot done in April so what my gynecologist has put me on estrogen cream 1gram twice a week to see if that will help to counteract the bleeding . However this will be the last shot for me as i am 77 years old and i dont want to keep getting all the other things done like biopsy s ect . Also the estrogen cream comes with other problems .hope that helps . good luck

I started spotting the same evening after having two knee injections. I am 60, 7 years postmenopausal, and currently on BHRT. I'm hoping it's no more than just spotting, and that it doesn't last too long. Very glad to see i am not the only one!

I had kenalog injections in both my knees after RFA like a week ago ... Couple days later I started having groin pain then mild cramps then this morning I went to the bathroom n when I wiped I dam near fainted blood.. I didn't know where it came from so I wiped again and I'm like I know you lying I've been menopause and for 10 years no period no spotting no cramping and now this s*** is here I had to go out and buy pads because I didn't want to know surprises like this I tried to make an appointment with the OBGYN their book oh my God and I got the reading Google reviews about it could be some kind of cancer and all this other s*** I'm really spooked now I'm just waiting on the telehealth appointment I'm just I'm so overwhelmed right now it's just horrible I can't go back to buying pads and s*** again pads and tampons I thought I was over that s*** but I feel the same way I used to feel when I used to have periods I was having these night night hot flashes at night sweating sleeping for hours I had to go out and buy me a box fan because I between the hot flashes from menopause and the hot places from the night sweats from having a damn period again is horrible I'm I'm so over it but girl you are not by yourself

I have been getting the cortisone shots in my back now for about 4 years every 4months and the same thing happens to me. About 16 days i get a period and cramps . I am 78 years old and the quality of life is important for me at this age so i will continue to get them as long as it keeps working .
I also have all the tests and biopsies with the results all negative . So my gynecologist told me that if this is whats normal than shes not worried unless things change more drastically. She also put me on estrogen cream and it does seem to help the bleeding a bit but still get them as long cramps and feel crappy for a couple of days .
However , i am noticing that the shots aren't lasting as long as they use to so i am going to physio in between shots which is helping .
