@broken13
Questioning which has less side effects - Tymlos or. Forteo. Not ruling out treatment forever just want to wait and hope all goes well for me. Will start trainer at gym on Mondays
@ipg hi, i am in a similar situation. I had a stress fracture in my foot 4 years ago. I have been trying diet, supplements, exercise vs meds. I have met with 2 PTs, have done a lot of research. 2 yrs ago my spine was -3.0. I am due for a dexa in August. I think that if my BMD has decreased again I will make an appt with an endo to see what is suggested. I too am petrified of the side effects & live alone. I want to further evaluate Forteo side effects. Tymlos seems to possibly have headache, heart palpitations, insomnia, cramps. I don't understand about the difference in dosage between Forteo & Tymlos if they are similar.
I am even more afraid of Reclast or Prolia side effects. At least with Forteo & Tymlos you can stop. I am extremely grateful for all the helpful information, here, thanks for the support!
@mako8 The Tymlos pen allows you to adjust the dosage downward, which many people do. Forteo doesn't have that.
Yes I know but not sure if drs approve of that notion. Good luck and let me know
@njx58 Thanks, I read that here about adjusting the dosage downwards on Tymlos, which I think is a very good idea especially when starting. What I don't understand is that Tymlos is 80 mcg and Forteo is 20 mcg, so it seems that Forteo is a lower dose however I realize that they are made with different ingredients so I guess that explains why we can't compare them via dosage. If I get a choice on which to take? Not sure I will but I wish I understood more about the difference. If dr doesn't agree with lower dose of Tymlos I would suggest that it is just temporary as we are adjusting to the medication.
@redlo I know that CTX score is excellent. Lucky you!
@mako8 A -3.0 T-score is severe osteoporosis. If that score was taken 2 years ago, your new score today will be even lower. You need to see an endocrinologist. You will most likely need to be on an anabolic - tymlos, forteo, evenity, - and then be at least 2 years on a bisphonophate, like reclast, to keep the gains from the anabolic. Most people who take these drugs do not experience many side effects. I have been taking Tymlos for 14 months and have no side effects. People posting here are much more likely to be the minority of patients who are experiencing the side effects. At the stage you are in if you do not take these drugs, your bones will weaken until they fracture. Fractures will lead to severe disability and chronic pain. Again, I urge you to see an endocrinologist - they will run tests to try to find the underlying cause of your osteoporosis, and then most likely find a drug for you that will give you minimal side effects. Please stop focusing on bad things that may not happen, and focus on how to stop your bones from deteriorating.

1 Reaction@mako8 You cannot compare the standard dosages of 2 different medications: 80mcg of Tymlos versus 20mcg of Forteo is like comparing apples and oranges. How could you even know you need a lower dosage of Tymlos without taking it? I am a small female and have no problem taking the standard dosage of Tymlos. You are anticipating problems that may not even exist. The real problem is that your T-Score of -3.0 indicates that u have already lost 25-35% of your skeletal mass in that area where the DEXA scanned. Sadly, once you get that low, supplements and exercise are not going to help you.

Congratulations. May I ask what the changes are on your first dexa and the post forteo dexa? Thanks
