know any causes of Chronic Nausea?

Posted by socalfriend @socalfriend, Sep 26, 2023

I'm really really seeking any type of insight into unusual or rare causes of chronic nausea. I am a 27yo female and have had chronic moderate-severe nausea daily for going on 10 months with no known cause. I have ruled out pregnancy and GERD, and know that it is not from anxiety (I am a MH professional). It is seriously debilitating and I have seen many specialists that all have coincidentally found something but not the cause of the nausea. The other symptoms I have include headaches, palpitations/PVC's, chronic fatigue, occasional nightsweats, dizziness/chest discomfort when standing up, and just an overall sense of unwellness. In the midst of this search for answers I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's, but dont believe it's the cause for many of these symptoms as the lump in my throat feeling and fatigue have improved a little w/ Hashimotos treatment but most of the symptoms I mentioned previously have only continued to get worse. Does anyone know of any possible causes for the symptoms I have been struggling with, particularly the nausea? Or is anyone familiar with Hashimotos and has had a similar experience of having this intense persistent nausea for months?? I feel like my medial providers aren't thinking outside the box and aren't taking it as seriously as I am to consider potential causes. I feel very desperate as I can feel myself getting sicker. This will sound dramatic but since I have only continued to get sicker over the past 10 months its hard not to wonder if I have some type of serious illness thats just going untreated. Thanks in advance.

We should all take note of your line:
I can't cut out tomatoes... I love em too much... but in moderation... smaller portions I'm ok.
That's the key to it all. You don't necessarily have to cut out everything you enjoy. I'm not supposed to eat black licorice because of the cardiac effect but if I stick to the minimum serving size on the bag, I can still enjoy it in moderation without any effect. Many things that are bad for us if we overindulge are okay in moderation. Maybe that bowl of ice cream is not good for you but maybe an occasional scoop is okay. Doctors can be very understanding of dietary pleasures if you give them a chance to discuss it.

Hi there. I haven't had dairy in 33 years.. it's made me sò sick, I first learned of hashi/ thyroid AND mthfr gene mutation... I learned this when I went to functional dr cuz my other dr. . Well you read... see him long time.. when he didn't listen I left.. with being proactive. An such wanting to feel better because dealt with daily migraines since well 40 plus years.. teens on up.. b12 I did with methylcolbalmin(?spelling) don't take the cyanocobalamin that is man made an has cyanide in it.. nope.. makes me sick.. but I did the aip(auto immune protocol diet) to learn what triggers are. Gluten a big one.. but she started me on LDN an I had liquid.. for some reason.. helped me a lot till I figured diet out, no dairy, no gluten.an too was told by gi doc no pork.? Why you ask well.. was one explained to me as fats.. is a natural laxatives to our body, but for me it's amplified ten fold more.. an pork is high an rich in fat.. so is roast. But try find meat that has no hormones.. because I found I react to that too.,
Oh lawd, lol, I did the dermatologist thing too.'and had every cream ointment hair wash., he wanted me washing my hair daily. 'An certain days 2 times a day. #note: my hair has always been super thick. Not anymore. And it's almost 3 feet long. But itched at the crown. Drive me nuts. Since diagnosis.. developed what allergy? Sensitivity? All I know, when rinse.. my skin burns... I learned that mix 1 part raw apple cider vinegar 4 to 5 part filtered/distilled water... too acidic to add directly.. but put on scalp after wetting hair work into Scalp.. for those of you live foam.. sorry no foam. Leave on 10 min., so do your shower stuff then when done rinse...
what does this do. Well I found several things, so it cleans any chemicals an such water leaves on hair.. cleans it. Doesn't hurt dyed hair. So I don't use shampoo conditioner. Or head an shoulders. Growing up my hair.. nappy head the knots. Not this way.. detangler comb worked great. No itchy scalp. Hair is shiny, soft... silky... an noticed not frizzy... an noticed no split ends for the last year ive started. But it does open up pores to too stimulate hair growth.
I guess balances pH in skin. . I don't know.. but if dogs itchy works for them too(an flea an tick repeĺant)... sorry rambling. But I feel details important. An maybe hoping give someone ideas which way to go.... Hugz

Just wanted to add my dad took black licorice when he stopped smoking. But I did read that is not the best.. I don't care for it Anyhow... but I did cut out all ultra processed foods.. no red dye 40. And no sugars. An lowering sodium. I feel lot better. My Ra, osteoporosis, broke L1 and shoulder i was on pain meds too.., hated it.
Now almost pain frèe... i say almost because if i don't stay up on exercises an walks I'll hurt an risk losing mobility. But every day improving.... i refuse. Pay attention to what your saying. Er more how's it reacting. I cut a lot of meds out while working with Dr to watch bloodwork.. make sure don't make it worse. But search.. there's answers.. Hugz

I am sorry you have this because I have grown up with it too. I’m 69. For me the nausea is really bad when the weather is really humid. Getting a dehumidifier and using it was really helpful! I am super sensitive to everything – – you must know what HSP is. I am that. Therefore, it doesn’t take much to put me in a state of nausea and I have found over 45 years that it also coincides with the humid weather. You should see me when I wake up from surgery. I’m a mess but the cocktails they make now for anesthesia are much better and I’m much less of a mess. However, my solution is to keep a prescription for Zofran or onadestran in the house and I just take a pill when I’m nauseous. Sometimes it’s medication’s. Sometimes it’s hormones. What I suggest is that you ask the doctor for an anti-nausea prescription and you see if that relieves the symptoms. It’s hard to concentrate on anything else when you feel nauseous all the time. Ironically, my dog also suffers from nausea. 🙂 so we can do it together! Sometimes we just don’t balance right. For example, if you’re on diet and there’s not enough food in your belly and your gastric juices, naw away at your stomach. Small meals and snacks should help. Sometimes it’s pre-menstrual hormones knawing away at your stomach lining. Get a prescription for Nexium or go to the store and get it and see if that provides some relief. I also keep that in the house. I usually need to take that for a couple of days and then I’m fine. They work on different mechanisms so it’s helpful to try both and it’s helpful to have both on hand. Yes, I’m sure the Hashimoto’s contributes to your problem and just being a woman with hormonal changes will do it. I used to be very sensitive to acid belly when I had my period actually before my period when I had about two weeks of PMS good luck. Ironically @socalfriend I live in SoCal too! I just saw that! This has been a horrible summer with the nausea because of the increased humidity and monsoonal weather. Maybe you are really like me and that is making your nausea act up. I don’t expect it to get better in the near future because the humid monsoonal weather is forecast to continue with a couple breaks for dryer weather. Take notice when the weather gets dry if you feel better and go ahead and get yourself some anti-nausea and an acid medicines.!

Get tested for Gastroperisis. I had constant nausea and my stomach would bloat so bad. They did a stomach emptying test and it showed that I couldn’t pass my food.

i too have been suffering from nausea for about 9 months. So far, none of my docs have found the source. I’ve lost 15 lbs so far and I was not overweight to begin with so i’m getting concerned about losing much more. I have several auto immune diseases and take numerous medications for it so we’ve stopped all meds in hopes that it was a medicinal side effect but so far i’m still nauseous. In my own research these diseases can cause it but I was diagnosed 25 yrs ago and in that time have never suffered this symptom. I also loss all taste & smell at the same time… also unexplained. I know how frustrated you are as i am as well. Keep researching and being your own advocate. If you’re not getting any answers from your current doc then get another opinion.

Is it possible to have a very slight case of vertigo or something similar that affects your perceptive balance enough to cause nausea without obviously affecting your balance?

If you are a marijuana user you could have developed a condition called “Cannabinoid Hyperemesis”. Look it up! More research needs to be done on THC products and warnings put in place!
