Wegovy, then switched to a compounded formula of semaglutide

Posted by bhb30602 @bhb30602, Jun 9, 2025

A month ago, my PCP gave me a free sample of .25 Wegovy (month's supply) and I take the 4th jab tomorrow. Since my insurance won't cover Wegovy, he prescribed a compound formula of semaglutide with pyridoxine and glycine and increased the dose to .50mg. The pyridoxine (B6) for possible nausea and glycine to help maintain muscle. I've checked out the compound pharmacy on BeSafeRx and everything seems to check out as reputable.
Has anyone started on Wegovy then switched to a compounded formula of semaglutide and if so, what was the transition like and have you lost any weight?
Any info is appreciated.

Hello,

I tried wegovy last year and it didnt work like I hoped, since I am not diabetic my weight loss was slow and only like 15 to 20 lbs. I did lose mostly muscle and even fell and damaged my meniscus. After a year my weight loss was only like 20 lbs, which I gained back. I was thinking of trying a different one, it is called Zepbound (tirzepatide). any thoughts? this time I will be excersisng and doing yoga. I am hoping to lose aprox 30 lbs by december.

Hi there, I feel like I’m a professional dieter which gives you the story of all the weight loss I’ve done and weight gain. After gaining almost 80 pounds after an accident and being wheelchair bound for two years, I finally upped my exercise. My doctor sent me down and we figured out how many calories I needed to maintain the weight I was at then we removed 500 cal. He was kind of shocked that I needed to drive to 1000 cal to kickstart my system into losing weight. It’s not many calories so I had to make it extremely nutrient dense. Any grains or whole grains, I would marinate chicken and have chunks of it in a baggie in the fridge to grab for snacking or throw on a salad. Same thing with some steamed shrimp, etc. I would make a gallon baggie of salad with every vegetable I could think of and I ate that once my breakfast of one egg, one egg white and a little cottage cheese had passed. I didn’t eat anything else until that salad was gone and it really did get tiring, but it also filled me up and kept my system running. We’re all vegetables have lots of needed nutrients in them that we need to keep from getting depleted. I enjoyed a small medium potato, actually quite often because of the potassium. It’s a starch not a carb really .
Anyway, it took about three weeks before my body finally kicked in to weight loss and from that point on it was pretty easy. I did use protein bars occasionally and I would slice them up in 1/6 of a bar and keep them in the freezer. I’m an anxiety eater so I had to have food to munch on and I prepped cucumber chunks, celery, sticks, and anything crunchy like that to have on hand. It took me a year and a half to lose the weight but I have kept it off. I probably have about 1200 cal a day now. I can’t do a lot of exercising because of the damage from the boating accident which pretty much mangled my right lower leg. Long walks are out for me so is riding a bicycle but I can push a mean vacuum cleaner lol
Anyway, you have to find out how many calories you maintain your weight at then you’ve gotta remove 300 maybe to start and if it’s feasible remove 500 cal from your allowance then you will lose weight. I guarantee it. If I were to have had access to a GLP one at the time I would have used it absolutely but with the above. If you don’t change your behavior, you will just gain the weight back. Of the GLP ones I would certainly use Terzepitide compounded with B6. I think. Search out a good compound Pharmacy. Big Pharma has got these things so high priced under brand name. It cuts out most people. I helped my daughter and it cost us $50. Per 10 milligram units of Terzepitide. I mixed with sterile, prescription grade micellar water and all sterile syringes and protocols. She’s lost 20 pounds with the cost of $100.
I understand everyone’s concerns and FDA likes nothing better than to you into submission, but there are some great Terzepitide peptide resources available GLP 1 peptides reconstituted with sterile pharmaceutical micellar water is a game changer for those that can’t afford the big box and whose insurance doesn’t cover weight loss. It worked just the same as my friend who is using the brand pharmaceutical pens. Cost her close to $4000. But do your homework and be safe and good luck on your weight loss journey.

Thanks for checking in Lisa.
I've lost about 5-6 lbs total since beginning. I started out on 25mg sample of Wegovy from my PC, then moved to the compound the next month to the .50, then 1.0 the following month. This past week I started my 1.7mg dose and fortunately, still have not experienced any major side effects.
My PCP said this (1.7) dose but for sure the next dose (I believe will be 2.4 or 2.5 mg) will begin more weight loss. I'm walking 3 miles 3x p/week at a pretty good pace and drinking LOTS of water so I'm being patient. I've also noticed some consensus around the notion that the lower doses up to 2.5 are helping calibrate and prepare my body for the higher dose, and that they (lower doses) usually don't yield the best results.
Thanks again for reaching out - any thoughts to share are welcomed and appreciated.

@lisalucier Thanks for reaching out. I seemed to hit a plateau at a 12lb loss. My PCP prescribed Zepbound (15mg Kwik Pen) that I purchased from Lilly. I don't qualify for the Bridge program ($50 copay monthly) but I may have another option.
Healthwise, I tolerated the semaglutide without problems and so far, 2 does of the Zepbound have not given me any problems either.
If you know of, or can direct me towards resources that provide discounts for Zepbound I would appreciate you sharing those w me.
Thanks again - take care.

Unless your on Medicare there is a bridge program, otherwise some insurances may send a coupon to your pharmacy, still very high priced. I buy direct from Lily and pay 248.00

@bhb30602 - have you had the chance to look on the manufacturer's site for discount coupons, such as this page?https://zepbound.lilly.com/savings

@lisalucier , thank you for the follow-up and link. I will spend some time looking at it in the morning.
After submitting my post, I reached out to The Bridge program to find out the specific reason I was denied and they couldn't tell me. I (do) have sleep apnea for which I'm being treated, so I'm guessing that's the cause although I do have 2 other qualifying conditions. I understand there are pathways for coverage through Part D for those who have disqualifying conditions so I reached out to Humana (my Part D carrier) to find out what those pathways are. Humana told me that my PCP (prescriber of Zepbound) should complete a "Formulary Exception" form and submit to Humana for approval and that might qualify me for Part D coverage. They were unable to tell me what my share of the cost would be if my exception was approved but hopefully would be less that the $450 I paid for the kwik pen. I shared Humana's response with my PCP yesterday but haven't heard back. I'm sure they are frustrated with this situation as much as I am and I am grateful for their help. I offered to do any leg work needed to make it easier for them if that is an option. Hopefully, I'll hear something soon.
Thanks again for checking in,
Barrett
