Ladies: How are you managing vaginal atrophy as you age?

Posted by HomeAgainLA @llynch17056, Sep 21, 2023

TO THE LADIES ONLY: As I got older I started developing vaginal atrophy. Then I started developing open splits on my labia that were extremely painful. I went to urgent care one weekend and was prescribed vaginal estrogen medicine. It did the trick but I didn’t want to use estrogen. I went to a GYN that recommending organic coconut oil to use externally only. This was a few years ago and it has worked perfectly. I have never had another problem. At all. I wanted to pass along a natural inexpensive solution to vaginal atrophy.

I’m wondering if it’s necessary to do anything about vaginal atrophy if you’re not sexually active, perhaps I’m naive and there’s other benefits besides having sex, just thought I’d ask.

@frouke see my answer below. If I had not had painful labia tears I wouldn’t have done anything.

@gigipatula and HomeagainLA: please elaborate on how the coconut oil is helpful to you? If it helps with painful intercourse?

@laren3 At 68 my sex drive is nearly 100% gone ): but when I did....I used Carlson Vitamin E suppositories and ID lube in particular the Millenium silicone lube. It lasts forever and is water proof, however be forewarned it can stain sheets and clothes. For a bit I was using it as a moisturizer but I stopped using it all due to sensitivity. I cannot vouch for coconut oil as a sexual lubricant but I think anything moist even olive oil would work just use lots of it, keep applying it and enjoy, hope that helps!

@gigipatula Thanks. Fortunately I haven’t had sex in decades. I like it that way, but that’s just me. Sounds like good ideas for those that want to have sex.
