Ladies: How are you managing vaginal atrophy as you age?
TO THE LADIES ONLY: As I got older I started developing vaginal atrophy. Then I started developing open splits on my labia that were extremely painful. I went to urgent care one weekend and was prescribed vaginal estrogen medicine. It did the trick but I didn’t want to use estrogen. I went to a GYN that recommending organic coconut oil to use externally only. This was a few years ago and it has worked perfectly. I have never had another problem. At all. I wanted to pass along a natural inexpensive solution to vaginal atrophy.

@llynch17056 , I know that you mentioned this and it’s very wise that you’re careful, I just wanted to share with everyone as a precaution, we can’t be too careful these days with germs and bacteria especially as women.

1 ReactionMy problems started after breast cancer and they told me I could not keep using my Vagifem ): So I stopped and 3 weeks post surgery I got the worst UTI I've ever had! Took antibiotics and then got the worst yeast infection! So I tried Hyaluronic acid for vaginal atrophy after all of that and what happened after that was worse! I'm apparently allergic to it for nearly a year I had no idea why my vulva was literally on fire especially when I urinated. I could not wear jeans, or tights, it was nuts! Now if I am dry I use either coconut oil or Carlson vitamin E suppositories. I however am not sexually active and I can't even imagine having sex since I believe it would just hurt way too much!

@llynch17056 Estrogen IS natural. And coconut oil can soothe and moisturize, but will not strengthen the tissue that our atrophied vaginas need as they get older.

2 Reactions@gigipatula and HomeagainLA: please elaborate on how the coconut oil is helpful to you? If it helps with painful intercourse?
I’m wondering if it’s necessary to do anything about vaginal atrophy if you’re not sexually active, perhaps I’m naive and there’s other benefits besides having sex, just thought I’d ask.

1 Reaction@frouke my labia was splitting and it was very painful and excruciating when I urinated. I went to urgent care and they prescribed estrogen cream. It worked. I went to my GYN and she suggested coconut oil. It also worked. I’ve been using coconut oil for about 5 years with 100% success for my problem which was vaginal atrophy resulting in painful tears. I am not sexually active.
