What happens if I go from 50 mg to 25 mg Metoprolol?

Posted by bohaiboy @bohaiboy, 3 days ago

Hi all, I had an ablation about 5 1/2 weeks ago. I am still having some issues with AFIB. I also take Flecanide and Metoprolol (50 mg once daily). These drugs leave me really tired and fatigued. I had a post follow-up with my EP and he suggested cutting my Metoprolol by half. with a goal of getting off of it entirely. Have read some not so good reviews of trending it downward.

What can I expect? Will start it tonight and will closely monitor BP as well. See the EP again in two weeks.

My wife (68) is not on blood thinners, and she bleeds easily, especially if the dogs jump on her in excitement. She also has reddish areas under the skin for a while as it heals.

It's just pooled up blood. Sometimes I get them without any sort of injury. They are IIRC referred to as purpuras.

You might experience a short term increase in BP.

@bajjerfan

After my partial nephrectomy in 2024 I tried cutting back fron 50mg to 25mg and my BP went up. Didn't pursue the drop long enough to see if it went down.

He specifically said he removed scar tissue from the previous ablation in 2006

@bohaiboy Oh, okay, so it was during that second ablation that he used RF to ablate away scar tissue from the first ablation. That's a new one on me, but I keep learning. Thanks!
