High heart rate desperate medication

Posted by breeves5 @breeves5, 6 hours ago

Im wearing my heart out. New mom (2 months) with lifelong svt fixed with ablation months ago. Not svt but now heart rate is jumping to 160 in 15 seconds just walking to the bathroom or any type of exertion. Even turning in bed raises heart rate. Can’t tolerate beta blockers due to asthma or ivabradine. What else can I take to lower heart rate? I’m so afraid as I’m bedbound and I’ve tried all betas, ivabradine, and flecanide. Please help I’m so afraid I can’t do anything during the day to help with my new baby and husband. I did have reduced ejection fraction so idk how well dilitziem would work or be okay. Cardiologists don’t know what to do. I did have reduced e/f on echo but cardiac mri showed 52 and 57 right and left so maybe it improved in month but I’m wearing my heart out.

I don't think you are wearing your heart out, but it sounds like you might be wearing you out. 😀

Has POTS been mentioned....and ruled out?

Diltiazem is pretty good and widely prescribed. So is propafenone if flecainide had been tried and didn't work (is there an underlying arrhythmia? Is this why the flecainide?)

How about bisoprolol? Carvedilol?

This is heavy reading, but doable if you steel yourself and just have at it.

@gloaming Thanks so much!! 🙂 I have inappropriate sinus tachycardia, but no arrhythmia so not sure why my EP tried it. Are flecanide and propafenone supposed to lower heart rate? They do believe I have POTS, but even with the diagnosis Im not sure how that helps unless there’s different medications maybe? I’m trying nebivolol now but I think it’s making me short of breath. I think it’s most cardioselective but I haven’t heard of carvedilol. Thanks!
