Hello,
I have had a few ocular migraines.
No pain, but a very dramatic pitch black large shape in my vision. Thankfully it has only happened when I am home, not driving etc or I would have to pull over & wait until it stopped. It can be alarming.

1 Reaction...hi Stephanie sorry to read... yes me too but have commented on another discussion group so dont want to repeat.. will try and find it: basically started off with the one side head pain when a child, awaful; then young adult added Aura (bright zigzags moving in semi circle) then later in life only (only!) Aura about 12 times a year.. I will try and find that other site as I think might help you... hugs, J.
I've had them for years and I have Glaucoma that has worsened over the years. For a long time, I didn't know what I was experiencing. When I described what I was seeing people couldn't relate. A forum like this finally steered me to the right questions to ask.

3 ReactionsI'm sorry you are struggling. 5 years ago I developed an aura migraine that lasted for over a year. I worked with a neurologist who treated with medication and Physiotherapy and it resolved. This last October I developed another headache with no pain but considerable visual impact. My peripheral vision is largely affected as well with the Black spots and when reading words are missing. Given I couldn't get into my neurologist my family doctor began treatment. Unfortunately, the drugs used were not well tolerated and have now resulted in severe esophageal reflux that burns hours at a time and I still can't see properly. Nor can I get into a GI specialist.. Consequently I am getting week, I have lost 20 lbs, I'm constantly have stomach and esophagus pain and can't read or use my eyes for activities as spots in my vision in both eyes have blank spots. I am in Canada but willing to come to US if I can get positive help. Has anyone else struggled with an aura migraine that has had successful treatment and if so where? I would appreciate any info. Thank you.
The pitch black auras are scary. (But unlike the OP I now get hammered with pain too. ) A horrible drug I do not like taking is somewhat effective (who knows about tomorrow) against many of the auras. Topiramate. But it is no match for the stubborn pitch black auras. Or a couple of others.
I could start at A and go through the alphabet naming the auras I've experienced. Who knew there are so many! I certainly didn't and misinterpreted in the beginning what was happening.
Migraines are a beast. Silent or otherwise. I appreciate this forum. Thank you to all who participate.

1 ReactionThe day after I had an ablation surgery I had my first, then every two days for a week. It started as a spot close to the center of my vision (I figured it was my left eye the first few times but when I closed my eyes I could see in binocular vision). It starts as a small kaleidescope blot multicolor and pixelated (triangles multicolor) as if you had stared at something too bright but it doesn't go away. It continued to expand in a more L or C format until it passed my vision. Considering the surgery, I mentioned it to my nurse and he immediately tested me during it for stroke (physical capacity tests). My surgeon took it seriously but as it lasted only 30 minutes and I seemed fine, we simply noted it and imagined it might be a migraine. However absolutely no pain nor eye strain - just blurred kaleidescope vision. Every two days after (3x) it happened exactly the same then one week after, then again the next day. I realize I had been doing a good amount of screen time. I did have lingering light pain from general anesthesia - neck, almost a molar pain like an abcess sometimes. I'm just happy it doesn't seem to be related to a stroke as I am currently on blood thinners they assume it's not that - plus not repetitive and short lived. So weird the format of Kaleidescope!
I’ve had them in two
Time periods. Circular colored almost digital ring . First time was for about two weeks that lasted around 5 mins per episode. That was 15 years ago. No changes that I recall caused this. My second time
Was about two weeks ago end of a physical day for about 3-4 nights. Hasn’t happened since. I’m not sure what starts them , low
Oxygen or exercise or something else. I’ve read they simply happen and largely no cause is given.
They’ll
Probably fade out in a couple days but are an interesting thing.
