Hello,
I have had a few ocular migraines.
No pain, but a very dramatic pitch black large shape in my vision. Thankfully it has only happened when I am home, not driving etc or I would have to pull over & wait until it stopped. It can be alarming.

1 Reaction...hi Stephanie sorry to read... yes me too but have commented on another discussion group so dont want to repeat.. will try and find it: basically started off with the one side head pain when a child, awaful; then young adult added Aura (bright zigzags moving in semi circle) then later in life only (only!) Aura about 12 times a year.. I will try and find that other site as I think might help you... hugs, J.
I've had them for years and I have Glaucoma that has worsened over the years. For a long time, I didn't know what I was experiencing. When I described what I was seeing people couldn't relate. A forum like this finally steered me to the right questions to ask.

3 ReactionsI'm sorry you are struggling. 5 years ago I developed an aura migraine that lasted for over a year. I worked with a neurologist who treated with medication and Physiotherapy and it resolved. This last October I developed another headache with no pain but considerable visual impact. My peripheral vision is largely affected as well with the Black spots and when reading words are missing. Given I couldn't get into my neurologist my family doctor began treatment. Unfortunately, the drugs used were not well tolerated and have now resulted in severe esophageal reflux that burns hours at a time and I still can't see properly. Nor can I get into a GI specialist.. Consequently I am getting week, I have lost 20 lbs, I'm constantly have stomach and esophagus pain and can't read or use my eyes for activities as spots in my vision in both eyes have blank spots. I am in Canada but willing to come to US if I can get positive help. Has anyone else struggled with an aura migraine that has had successful treatment and if so where? I would appreciate any info. Thank you.
The pitch black auras are scary. (But unlike the OP I now get hammered with pain too. ) A horrible drug I do not like taking is somewhat effective (who knows about tomorrow) against many of the auras. Topiramate. But it is no match for the stubborn pitch black auras. Or a couple of others.
I could start at A and go through the alphabet naming the auras I've experienced. Who knew there are so many! I certainly didn't and misinterpreted in the beginning what was happening.
Migraines are a beast. Silent or otherwise. I appreciate this forum. Thank you to all who participate.
