Leg infection that flared up in July

I'm glad you have a trip planned! I have recurring infections of my lower legs and ankles. If I get a scratch, it will get infected. In my case it might be due to the biologic infusion I get every 8 weeks for 12 years. I have RA that seems to be morphing into Psoriatic Arthritis (PsA). So I have rashes that I never had before, and these infections.
I hope you can find a good way to heal before your trip. I usually end up at Urgent Care and have been prescribed mupurocin ointment that I use for a week. My infection will look better in 3 days, but I continue the full dose.

@kb1kanobi Since this is a recurring issue, have you been seen by an infectious disease specialist? I suspect you are on the right track as far as being allergy-related, especially if there is ant hardware in the leg. a histamine or eosinophil (allergic/autoimmune) response can leave you vulnerable to other issues like infection.

Also, has the infectious material been cultured to determine what bug it is? Like @jw9, if I get any broken skin near my shin, where I once had a bad laceration and infection, it becomes infected within a day or 2. We know it is a specific strain of staph (not MRSA) and I now treat immediately when it happens.

Do you get an open infection in a sore, or is it internal - like cellulitis?

@sueinmn thank you got your response. This last time it was internal. It has also happened on sites on my toes. The hardware was removed from by break due to infection, and I believe it was a staph infection.

When it start to flare up, the lymph nodes in my hip swell, so that is my warning to head to the doctor, as long as I catch that in time.

I, also, have this problem. Have been doctoring most of the summer. Steroid and antibiotics. Hoping it will finally get well. Doctor has diagnosed vasculitis.
