Hip osteoarthritis pain deep in butt cheek

Has anyone had deep butt pain from hip osteoarthritis? If so, what types of things did you do for tolerating the discomfort?

Dumb question, but is the top of the pelvic bone say maybe 4 inches from the spine either medically or anatomically considered to be a part of the hip on that side? I'll hang up and listen.

@nancyjo1490 I had severe hip osteoarthritis (OA) in my 50's, and the pain actually was felt much more in the side of the hip and in the groin, which is typical. Now I have the pain you describe, but it is caused by spinal issues & nerve impingement, which we are managing conservatively at this point.

Deep buttock pain can have many causes, and arthritis is actually pretty far down the list:

Have you had imaging and a hands-on physical evaluation by an orthopedist to pinpoint the cause? If so what were the doctor's diagnosis and recommendations?

It is important to know the exact diagnosis before you proceed, because treatments very. Sometimes physical therapy, including instruction for daily at-home exercises and stretching can help, other treatments may include regular icing, anti-inflammatory medications and injections, depending on the cause.

@sueinmn i was diagnosed with ischial bursitis, had it injected twice. Never fully went away. I have had MRI of lumbar spine and have had a previous fusion at L5-S1. A decompression at L2-4. I have had PT for possibly Piriformis issue. Nothing is helping. It hurts when i sit and when i do stairs. I think i need a hip xray. The pain is deep and only n my butt it doesn’t radiate. I had my other hip done a year ago and that pain was in my groin.

@nancyjo1490 If I was in your situation, I would go back to the doctor(s) who did the spinal surgeries for a diagnosis, the issue may be more complex than a bad hip.

@bajjerfan Not a dumb question if one has not had occasion to study anatomy. The hip joint is the point at which the femoral head inserts into the acetabulum (a socket in the pelvic bone.) So technically, the pelvic is part of the hip.

I have that pain because of severed glute minimus tendon. But it presents itself deep in buttocks. I use heat, ice. Salon spas , numbing roll on nothing takes it away completely.always present. It’s exhausting.

@sueinmn

I ask because the synopsis from a recent visit doesn't seem to single out the pelvic area, but more like it's hip problem. I do have some bursitis in my right hip, but not sure if it's part of the big picture.
