How do you handle your appearance asyou age?
I don't want to sound vain, or anything like that, but it looks like I aged overnight. I need dental work , that doesn't help much, but I'm almost so self conscious I don't want to go out anywhere.
I've always taken care of my skin, with creams etc. But the wrinkles just seemed to of came on.
I know this probably sounds like I care to much for looks but I feel ashamed of myself

Do not confuse youth for beauty. Do not judge how you look today by how you looked last year. Your real beauty is in your eyes, your smile, your thoughts, your words and your actions! That's what real people see!

Same here and so I’ve solved the problem. I don’t look in the mirror much. Instead when I wake up, I check what works: does my knee bend? Do my eyes see? Are my ears working with the hearing aids? Etc. Then, ok, body parts, what hurts? I go through the same process. At my age, 83, I am interested in cleanliness and function and very little in how I look. (My kids remind me to get haircuts.)

17 ReactionsI'm a 73 year old man. I was never much to look at even when I was young so I don't worry about it so much now, but I can be depressed by the strength and stamina that I have lost. There's a line from a movie called Mr Skeffington that goes something like this...a woman is beautiful when she is loved. As long as someone in your life loves you, you are beautiful! Never judge yourself harsher than you would judge someone else.

5 ReactionsHi Lee,
You are not vain! Feeling as you do is completely understandable, especially given the emphasis on youth and beauty that prevails in this country. We are our own worst critics. I am 76 and quite bummed out to see my wrinkled arms and legs! I never would have imagined THAT happening as well as other things that are not as perky as they once were. But, I adjust....no more sleeveless clothing and my hemlines have definitely dropped. I wear much less makeup and have let my silver roots grow in. Doing so, I feel that I am embracing who I am now. I always make an effort when going out. I do not fall prey with the "I'm old so I don't care attitude. " As others have mentioned, you look very attractive. Accepting the changes that come with aging is certainly a challenge, I totally agree. We may look different from years past but we are more beautiful in other ways. Be kind to yourself and forgiving of the changes. Know you are beautiful!

10 ReactionsI view aging as inevitable. We do what we can with what we have. I have a dear friend that I am distanced from but we keep in touch. She lives life to the fullest…wears shorts, she put on a swim suit & went swimming (we are 77). She said if people don’t like how she looks they don’t have to look at her. 👍👏🏻

14 ReactionsHi, I am 79 years old and can relate so much to your post. So many of us have had the same feelings and I talk about it with my sisters a lot. There’s five of us all over 60. You’re definitely not alone. When I saw your photo I thought you looked wonderful. When I go out I am so focused on staying upright that I don’t notice or think about how others look.
