Dental work while taking Tymlos?
Is there risk with the anabolic medications like there is with the biophosphonates (of ONJ or other issues) when getting dental work? I need to start Tymlos, and am being told conflicting answers. Does anyone have personal experience with this? I have actually seen some studies that being on Tymlos during a procedure can actually help the jaw bone (which might make sense bc isn’t it supposed to help grow bone?). Such confusing information out there. Yes, I am asking all my doctors and dentists too;) Thanks!

@ipg not yet. Those are on the “list” to research.
Maybe @gently has some insight?

If you've already looked at kyphoplasty, ignore this post. It can stop the pain completely sealing all the little nerves that grow into that space. It restores some height and stops further compression stabilizing the spine. The quality of your bone makes you a perfect candidate. If it a little late for kyphoplasty you might consider vertebroplasty.

1 Reaction@gently thanks. Yeah, I know about those procedures. Doc said conservative healing before anything else. But I am not even scheduled to go back until early July for the X-ray to check on the healing. So I will definitely be out of the window of time for those. We’ll see I guess.

1 Reactionshocknot26, there isn't a time limitation with vertebroplasty because it doesn't try to restore height, just stabilizes the break. I'm sorry to hear about the break and the pain.

1 Reaction@gently thank you. Good to know.
@ipg, collagen You might watch this video https://www.youtube.com/watch Doug Lucas thinks things through and clearly explains his thinking, but he is a salesman i.e, don't buy anything. Another intelligent gentleman with good explanatory skills, also a salesman, sells osteonaturals https://www.osteonaturals.com/collagen-is-it-all-created-equal/
I've taken all of them, but haven't an opinion, except that they are all kind of pricy.
@gently
I want to just try. Prefer one over the other? Does it really work? Algecal contains amino acids. Didn’t know if that would make it better or if it would be too much?

1 Reactionipg,
Algaecal Collagen contains collagen 1,2 and 3. So more amino acids than the 19 collagen type 1 for bones. If you only want type 1, you could take Fortibone. The other types of collagen are good for hair, joints and skin and seem advantageous, and not too much.
Collagen can affect digestion and rarely causes skin rashes. It might give you better digestive balance or worse.
None of the collagen is algae sourced.
I suspect that collagen supplements help. We never really know, you, especially. when you are doing everything possible to improve your bones. I do think it is a really good idea to take it. I'd probably choose Fortibone.
I think I will buy native path with the Fortibone and then talk to the dr or pharmacist about the amino acids in Algecal. I take meds that can interfere possibly with the amino acids Thanks for responding and always replying. Remind me, what medication did you start with? The reports of so Many people with fractures is worrisome too. I am always walking looking down, for fear I’ll fall or trip. That’s prob why my neck hurts !
@shocknot26
So sorry for your pain. I am very scared about the process, side effects and weight gain even! I am a lifetime member of weight watchers. I live alone and think about falling daily. I was -2.8 in 2024 and refused meds. Now I’m sure I am potentially worse. I am at risk of MRONJ. Forteo or Tymlos seem to be my only options Help
