Prostate minimally, invasive procedures help

Posted by anthony11021 @anthony11021, May 23 7:50am

Hello, 73-year-old with symptomatic BPH. I cannot take any alpha-blockers (Flomax, etc.) due to severe side effects – sinus congestion, dizziness, and they dangerously slow my urine flow. I also cannot take nasal steroids or oral antihistamines for the same reason. I have no medical "bridge" to help me through a long recovery.

I recently had a cystoscopy and TRUS, which led to urinary retention and a Foley catheter. That experience has made me very cautious about my next step.

I am now researching minimally invasive procedures and trying to decide between:

· PAE (Prostatic Artery Embolization)
· Aquablation
· TURP (traditional)
· UroLift (though I've read mixed results)

I am scheduled for a UroCuff test on June 15 to determine if my bladder muscle is strong enough to benefit from surgery.

For those of you who have had any of these procedures:

1. How was your recovery, especially the first few days to weeks?
2. Did you need to take Flomax or other meds during recovery?
3. Would you choose the same procedure again?

Thank you for any insights you can share.
Anthony

Now 78, five years ago had a Holep . Best thing for my health I ever did. After 30 years of dealing with BPH don't even think about prostate problems. Might want to consider.

Had PAE , it is working. Had it September of 2025. Had Turp 4 years ago. Didn't last long, maybe close to 3 years. PAE would be my choice today.

Thanks for sharing. Im investigating PAE, looks like it will work for my size 61cc prostate. I tried some meds but too many side effects. Last weeks I tried Doxazosin at the 1MG level, it relaxed my bladder muscle and the flow was so much better but after 4 days, my sinus was blocked and constant dripping all day, not a great way to live but it did help my prostate. If I stayed on this med its pot luck if this side effect would go away and it was coupled with some fatigue...
