Life after being a caregiver

Posted by angelicajoy21 @angelicajoy21, Apr 26 7:31am

As i read some of the post i can certainly relate to the frustration, anxiety, guilt, etc... I was a caregiver for my husband who had pancreatic cancer and lived for only 9 months. What makes me upset is people telling me how i should act/feel. I have secluded myself from them, because i didn't want to hear it. People often think they are helping but, i would rather they say nothing. I will never be the same my life is in total turmoil. Being a caregiver was the hardest job i ever had to do, and i would do it all again, through all the mood changes, anger, every time i did something he didn't like i would tell him im sorry and he would say sorry is not good enough. My children kept telling me that's not dad, he doesn't realize what he is saying. I pray often and rely on my faith but my heart is broken and who knows if it will ever heal. Thanks for listening.

@angelicajoy21 I’d like to add that the quote isn’t like that in the bible. It is different and used often unfortunately imparting feeling of defeat in caregivers.

Strength, Courage, & Peace

You are so right, thank you for that clarification! It refers to 1 Corinthians 10:13, which is talking about the fact that He will not allow us to be tempted to sin, beyond our ability, but never promises to not allow trials and hardships beyond our ability to cope/handle/deal on our own—with many Biblical examples of this so we know that we need to lean on the One who will never leave us or forsake us.

I’ve always said that He has certainly allowed more into my life than I can handle on my own, that I’ve gotten through only with Him. But I never researched the actual references before. Thank you!

Hello to all the Caregivers. I have lost the love of my life to Parkinsons. He transitioned this past Sunday! He fought hard. My family is devastated. I have hardly slept or have been able hardly do anything at all. Please, pray that I will be able to get myself together and do what needs to be done. Thank you Mayo Connect and all the wonderful comments and encouraging words through the years that I have been on this site as well as the Parkinsons site. Hold your love ones close and let them know frequently how much you love them. Hugs to all !!!🫂💞

Thank you. I tried to let others see Parkinsons as a condition that could be managed. It has been very hard through the years. Additionaly my brother , who I love dearly is fading quickly from this horrible disease. He called me and was trying to lift me up. He was crying ,he loved my spouse as long as I can remember. Actually it was since the seventies. I tried to be encouraging. My brother is one of the kindest and loving brothers that a sister could have. I let him know often how wonderful and blessed I was to have him in my life. I just cannot begin to tell anyone how bad this has devasted me. The day I met my spouse ,we were in high school. I was taken as soon as I saw him I knew he was the one. Please everyone should know that I was lifted up by the comments and wisdom others shared. Please pray for our family. 💞🫂
