Lower chronic severe right leg pain
Hello, my name is MsLadyTee7, I am new to the group and very glad to be here. I have severe lower right leg pain and been experiencing it for over a year, went to several doctors which one did MRI and showed that bulging disc was pressing on the sciatic nerve and that causes excruciating pain in my lower right leg. Thru prescribed me every medication in the book to give me some relief but nothing has helped. This for of pain in my leg burns, pinches and throbs constantly limiting my ability to stand or walk sometimes only minutes at a time. I am in constant pain and wonder if anyone else is experiencing this issue or something similar and if so what have you relief. I don't know how much longer I can continue to function with this type of pain in my leg. Please if anyone have any suggestions or answers please respond. Thank you all so much and again in so glad to be a part of this group.

Thanks Marja!
I hope that with time and patience the work with the physical therapist will pay off and your pain will decrease.
Keep up the great work! You are an inspiration for all of us!

1 Reaction@heyjoe415 Thank you Joe! The fight continues. Power to alla!
Have you applied to one of the MAYO Clinics?
Hi Marja!
"The fight continues!" I love that! Thank you! That's true for me every day, and almost always in a good way.
I do admire you for dealing with lower back pain, and most of all, seeking out help. So many people suffer needlessly. And even if the pain doesn't stop right away, you have a community here that cares for you, and that is priceless.
(Before I go - another thing useful for lower back pain is ice. You can get gel ice packs on Amazon, pop them in the freezer, and put a towel between the ice pack and your back.
Finally, I have found BioFreeze Professional to be the best menthol gel to apply to the back when pain flares up. It's available as a gel, aerosol spray, and my favorite, a roll-on.)
I hope this message finds you well Marja!

1 Reaction@heyjoe415 Thank you Joe for supporting! I’ve tried icepacks, but they don’t help to nervepains. I am quite sure that during these years I ve ”turn all stones” as the doctor said to me. The only solution is just keep on trying! Same to you!
I am with you - I have turned all stones myself trying to figure out why my right foot won't work right and my left back is part of the problem I believe. After many tests there are some hints that it is nerve related but no exact ah ha moments. Knees have bad cartilage as well in both but not bad enough for replacement and I am doing PT for everything everyday. I am 63 and have a lovely cane but the foot thing is sporadic and I never know when it is going to "go out" on me. Sad face.
You're welcome Marjo. I should have realized that you would have tried everything at this point.
I sincerely hope you find some relief. You certainly deserve it. in the meantime and as you say, the best solution is to "keep on trying" and never give up!
All the best.
Joe
Hi SZ,
I'm sorry for the pain you are going through. I've had both knees replaced, but there was no cartilage left. If that interests you, and other methods from your Dr aren't giving you relief, look into whether you can get 1) gel injections, approved now by the FDA for the knees (temporary relief), or 2) full or partial knee replacements (lasting relief). If there is torn cartilage in the knee, that can sometimes be treated via minimally-invasive arthroscopic surgery.
Like Marja, I'm sure you've looked into all of this, so please forgive me if I'm being repetitive.
And it sounds like you've had plenty of tests to isolate the cause of your foot pain. I can't help there. It sounds like neuropathy rather than sciatica. Sciatica causes extreme pain in the hamstrings and calves - all from a pinched sciatic nerve in the lower back.
With two replaced knees, one replaced shoulder, and one replaced hip, and a horrible lumbar spine (two bouts with sciatica), I understand how painful and baffling these conditions can be.
As Marja said, keep looking for solutions! I wish you all the best.

@heyjoe415 Thank you Joe! I am happy that you understand my situation. Have a nice day!
@heyjoe415 thank you for replying it is nice to have the support ! I went to Dartmouth for my knees and they said there are like pot holes in the patella which aren't bad enough for a full replacement. I could push for a patella replacement but the other parts are showing partial wear and I think they will need replacement in the next few years so I am just going to wait. The PT has helped the knees it is just overall systems issue at this point ! I agree it is neuropathic on the foot and sometimes the full leg is heavy. We will see if the brain MRI shows anything - that will be the final test and then I will just manage until the parts start to wear out. I have bad reactions to cortisone so try to avoid that.
