Lower chronic severe right leg pain

I am with you - I have turned all stones myself trying to figure out why my right foot won't work right and my left back is part of the problem I believe. After many tests there are some hints that it is nerve related but no exact ah ha moments. Knees have bad cartilage as well in both but not bad enough for replacement and I am doing PT for everything everyday. I am 63 and have a lovely cane but the foot thing is sporadic and I never know when it is going to "go out" on me. Sad face.

Hi SZ,

I'm sorry for the pain you are going through. I've had both knees replaced, but there was no cartilage left. If that interests you, and other methods from your Dr aren't giving you relief, look into whether you can get 1) gel injections, approved now by the FDA for the knees (temporary relief), or 2) full or partial knee replacements (lasting relief). If there is torn cartilage in the knee, that can sometimes be treated via minimally-invasive arthroscopic surgery.

Like Marja, I'm sure you've looked into all of this, so please forgive me if I'm being repetitive.

And it sounds like you've had plenty of tests to isolate the cause of your foot pain. I can't help there. It sounds like neuropathy rather than sciatica. Sciatica causes extreme pain in the hamstrings and calves - all from a pinched sciatic nerve in the lower back.

With two replaced knees, one replaced shoulder, and one replaced hip, and a horrible lumbar spine (two bouts with sciatica), I understand how painful and baffling these conditions can be.

As Marja said, keep looking for solutions! I wish you all the best.

Joe
