Anyone else have multiple autoimmune diseases?

Posted by noelcs @noelcs, Sep 28, 2025

I have Addisons, Hypothyroidism, Sarcoidosis, Myasthenia Gravis and Dermatomyositis. Also, Kidney disease 3a, and liver disease. Good news is……I don’t seem to have the worst. Are scenario of any of them. My biggest problem is the lungs. I still golf some and the breathing sometimes interferes. Overall, I consider myself lucky that I’m still here……because I’ve had some close calls.

Systemic lupus, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Colitis, Secondary adrenal insufficiency (severe) and uveitis occasionally crops up. RA seems to be the worst issue because I stay away from the sun due to lupus. But honestly, it all sucks and I am never pain free. I walk like a toddler, my energy level is pathetic, I eat only once a day. I'm 69 years old and the whole autoimmune thing began in my teens when I was a lifeguard.

@rdf56
oh my gosh I so sorry for you!
I have similar problems with pain so I know what a struggle it can be just to get through the day!
I hope you have some strategies and options for self care which take the load off .

I have GCA and PMR and now I may have Sjögren’s also. I just posted a message asking for advice about Sjögren’s at https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/swollen-parotid-glands-i-may-have-sjgrens/

I've been on Enbrel, Humira, Cimzia, Actemra, Rinvoq and currently, Xeljanz which is augmented by Leflunomide. I have to take daily steroids for the adrenal thing. I had 32 years on Plaquenil, but had to stop that for retinal toxicity.

@rdf56 It’s frustrating with trial and error… I am on orencia infusions and I can really feel the difference immediately! Who knows: everyone is different that’s for sure. Oh and I’ve been on prednisone for 20 years: my bones show it!! I’m 76… best wishes to you
