Clobetasol propionate for lichen sclerosus

Posted by bushelbasket @bushelbasket, Apr 16, 2025

Does clobetasol propionate irritate any of you w/ lichen sclerosus? It seems to be making mine worse and my ob/gyn says she'll do a biopsy if I'm not better in 3 weeks. Any alternatives to suggest?

I have been using clobetasol since 08/2025 with no problem. I use it every other day and Estrogen Cream on the alternative days. About 3 weeks ago a began having all over body itching, especially the day after using the Clobetasol. I started having tingling in my tongue and lips and roof of the mouth. My GYN said impossible that the clobetasol was the culprit. Granddaughters that are both nurses/ and Nurse Practitioner insisted that I cease using the clobetasol. My PC Doc had me take Prednisone 20 mg for 5 days and also Pepcid/Allegra 2xdaily for 2 weeks. No itching whatsoever. Upon completion of the Pepcid/Allegra duo the itching came back with a vengeance all facial related roof of mouth, tongue and lips. PC Doc ordered a Steroid dose pack because sometimes if the steroid is taken long enough the allergic reaction comes back. Has anyone else had a delayed allergic reaction to Clobetasol. Going to see a Dermatologist tomorrow that specializes in autoimmune issues.

My Doc and the Dermatologist today said I could be on this for life. I Hear there are new treatment for LS that are not yet FDA approved yet. I am looking into some of them one is called PETALS

I'd encourage a biopsy first. How do you know what you are treating otherwise? For LS, I use Lisepten. It's all natural.

I had a biopsy in September it was negative for cancer of the vulva and was LS. Believe me I do not want to go back to the clobestol

If people are using clobetasol cream or gel and not getting good results, ask your Dr. to prescribe the ointment. It is usually more easily tolerated and provides more reliable results. Also check with your Dr. once a year to make sure you're using the right dosage/frequency.

Could not take clobetasol so was put on mometasone . So far it doesn’t seem to be helping so dr. Stopped it and started me on estrogen in ellage base to plump the thinning tissues. Has anyone been through these changes and do they help
