Newb Question
I feel kind of bad posting here but here goes. My symptoms compared to "real" long Covid are minor but they are still impacting my life significantly.
I have been dealing with a very puzzling set of symptoms that I feel can be traced to a case of Covid about two years ago. It wasn't particularly bad as covid can go but after the illness I have not been able to exercise as much as I used to. About a year after that I got what I call an Atomic level cold (not covid, I tested) and my ability to exercise went down again.
The most striking example of this is two trips I made to the High Sierras. One, before covid, went fine, I hiked with the energy I am used to. A year later, and six months after covid I did the same trip and the same hikes and was out of breath, resting every 100 yards and had this weird tingling in my arms and legs.
I have self diagnosed myself with possible post viral syndrome. But I don't know. Two doctors have done blood tests looking for immune system issues or Epstein-Barr. All the tests come back negative. I am not very happy with either doctor, they are doing the minimum effort and are mostly interested in getting to the next patient.
My question is what kind of doctor might be able to either confirm or rule out a viral cause. I live in Ventura County, Southern California and it would be nice to find a doctor in the area that has experience with covid/viral issues.
Cheers.

@cometboy As an engineer myself, graphs engaged me also. Here is the medical open access journal of record for this report. Numbers represent 'humans' in the study: https://www.mdpi.com/2076-393X/12/7/790
I also suggest keeping a daily diary. You will begin to identify triggers. I have a hard time remembering things so it helped when going to Dr. There is a portion of your brain that controls the millions of nerves in your body including organs. Mine is damaged we think from Covid and the main cause of all my problems.

Thank you for posting this. It’s maddening to me how it can take years to get a diagnosis of dysautonomia. Fortunately I was persistent and am in recovery. This health issue can be debilitating.
@liz2025 The graph revealed unique (and often different) symptom(s) for 4 diseases that may be attacking the body immune systems , simultaneously. It was my 5 years of experiences that helped me to understand: specialized medicine nowadays leaves holes in full discovery. I thought this was significant enough to see the graph for Long Covid sufferers with continuing multiple symptoms from fatigue, brain fog, gut issues, heart issues, muscle problems, lack of sleep, pain in joints, loss of taste and smell, liver issues, (this list is huge for symptoms which showed up after being vaccinated for Covid). They can ask the treating physician for 2 tests: 1.) altered receptor antibodies, most notably angiotensin II type 1; and, 2.) alpha-2B adrenergic receptor antibodies to determine those who are suffering from PACVS. It is my hope that PACVS will be treated through the eyes of 'a team of physicians' with different medical expertise as a general rule. In the mean time, patients will continue to battle forward in finding answers.

1 ReactionI had a shortness of breath with exercise, climbing my stairs, etc following covid as well; 2 of my doctors recommended LDN, starting with a dose of 1.5 mg because I don't take medications very well; I react to a lot of them.
After much research, good research and reading of some good results; in the first week, I took it at bedtime and upon waking the first day, I felt amazing and during the first week, I noticed that the shortness of breath that I had been having that the doctors couldn't figure out, went away, and it has stayed away.
I was prescribed LDN for a series of issues I retained from retaining a contrast dye in my system following an MRA (mri of the neck arteries) and I never took the covid vaccine because my doctor told me that my immune system was already compromised from retaining the heavy metal contrast dye in my system and they said that the vaccine would further compromise my immune system, as does having covid, as we now know.
So I didn't get the vaccine, but I did get covid one time and so I had some cross over issues that were acquired from the contrast dye and having covid. My immune system is healing. I know that because I keep my blood work; also know that there is a "comprehensive list of illnesses acquired following covid" list; should try to pull that up...heart stuff, diabetes, blood clots in the lungs, blood vessels, etc., tremors that have often being misdiagnosed as Parkinsons, and the list is long.
I have gone back and looked at my bloodwork starting in 2/2023 when I had covid, and immediately following covid, my numbers were ok; I have only looked at 3 of them recently and noticed in 2023 they were good, but in 2024 through 2025 they rose to bad numbers, these three being creatine, eGFR, and Glucose.
I started taking the LDN late June or mid July 2025 and can see where my numbers were at that time, then in bloodwork I did in September, 2025, after taking LDN for a couple of months, my numbers had rebounded back to a good place, and my shortness of breath has gone away, aches and pains in mucsles and joints, gone as well, so I am happy to be taking the LDN. It's benefits are many.
@lesligirl02 Thank you for the information. I have decided to try out LDN and will see what happens. I also react very strongly to many medications so I will start very low and see. the common symptom that worries me the most is insomnia so I will take it in the morning.
