Started Repatha - Side Effects
I had terrible side effects with statins (any statin, any dosage). For about 30 years my doctors have pushed statins and
I have resisted. Finally I agreed to Repatha. The first week I had zero side effects. With my second dose, 2 weeks in, i woke up and my joints and muscles hurt a LOT.
1. Does this side effect go away?
2. What do you know about the recent information that the Repatha trials underreporting deaths from cardiac events while taking Repatha.

Who is this?
@llynch17056 I have found that some medicines cause other conditions which I really dont want. When I was taking the statins my doctor told me I was diabetic because my A1C was 6.5. it was never even mentioned to me before. He said I could control it with diet and exercise which I have been doing but that statins can cause that. I did the daily testing and my A1C did go down but why do I have to take one medicine to control one condition that gives me another condition that is worse. He would not admit that the statins caused the high A1C. When I went off them my A1C is now below diabetic level without the diet and exercise. The statins made my whole body ache and made me diabetic. Guess it means Im not diabetic anymore and I dont ache but I have high LDL. Hopefully the repatha will work when I go back on it but Im not counting on it. So depending on which medication you take, you have to choose what disease or side effect you want to have. It all seems ridiculous.

4 Reactions@mdeblaey539 exactly. Actually, Repatha made me sicker than statins with a backache that hurt to walk. It also took longer for the side effects to go away. I thought for a while they were permanent. Maybe because it is an injectable. BUT, note that a main side effect of Repatha is high A1C/diabetes. That scared me so much that I would get it checked so often I would just pay for it myself and go to Lab Corp. The Nexletol I’m on now has less side effects, tolerable, so far, but potential side effects are high lactic acid and tendon rupture!!! My doctor said not many people get tendon rupture and I said that SOME people do and it could be me! Talk about ending my exercise and yoga!!! At my age, 78, such a catastrophe would probably end my life as I know it. I am getting lactic acid tests regularly, too. It really scares me. It’s hard enough to just grow old. I’m exercising, being social, making sure I sleep, eat organic! Doing everything to life a full active fulfilling life only to be taken out by medicine. Emotionally, I just don’t know how long I can stay on the Nexletol. I swear every twitch I think I’ve ruptured a tendon!

1 Reaction@mdeblaey539 I am 80 years old with high (320) LPa. Dr put me on Repatha 8 weeks ago hoping to lower while waiting on new drugs to hit the market. I am having some feet and ankle swelling but think that is from Gabapentin but not sure. Due to get blood work soon to see if Repatha is helping

I fully agree about the bad side effects of meds…I had a heart attack in December 2024 and was given Eliquis (5 mg twice a day) After being on it for a little over a month, my leg started bothering me and they kept getting worse. I tried to tell my cardiologist, but she kept telling me that it would not give side effects with the Stiff muscles. She made it sound like I would only be on it for a year, the year came and went and she didn’t take me off it, but in March at my follow up appointment, I told her I wanted to get off it so she put me on Warfarin (Coumadin) which was a pain since I had to go for blood work twice a week plus it was giving me side effects. I started losing my hair and I had stomach issues. Feeling nauseous. I only stayed on it for three weeks and told her I wanna go back on the Eliquis even though it’s very very expensive……I have a friend who is on a different blood thinner but she said that is very expensive too, so I might as well go on the Eliquis although I don’t know how long I have to take it or just how bad my legs will be…
The doctors that prescribe these medication’s most of them don’t realize or even bother to look up what the side effects could be, they need more education if they’re gonna Continue prescribing..
We all know how our bodies feel and I don’t understand why the doctors refuse to listen..

2 ReactionsI didn't know about the underreporting of deaths. Where can I find that information?
@llynch17056 I took a break from Repatha and Zetia to see if the muscle pain, nausea etc. was from drugs or other issues with my autoimmune. Some things did get better. It did a great job on my lipid panel. I need to go on something as I have familial hypercholesteremia. Diet, exercise help a little but not enough. My LPa and ApoB were extremely high and hsCRP was not normal. I may go back on it and if issues come back, I will stop and try to find something that works. My Glucose did jump to 107 and when stopped, it went back to 93.

1 Reaction@bobinindiana unfortunately they either don’t know how debilitating side effects can be or they don’t care because they only look at the test result numbers. I don’t take drugs that make me sick because I’m told to, I weigh the supposed benefits against the negatives. If I don’t have quality of life because of side effects, why do I take the drugs to live longer in misery? And, I question whether they actually make you live longer. You have to be at a healthy weight, eat healthy foods, get sleep and exercise. That actually helps you have a good life, enjoy life and, maybe, live longer enjoying life. If you don’t do those things you maybe truly need drugs to stay alive. Regardless, if I’m happy and healthy and active and feel good and I die a year sooner because I didn’t take drugs that make me sick, then, for me, I’ve made the right choice. Right now I am taking Nexletol. I’m about 6 weeks into taking it. So far, so good, but if I start feeling bad I will stop. That’s just me.
@loyd1957 I read it on Google.
