Has anyone used Monolaurin for Epstein Barre Virus?

Posted by bayhorse @bayhorse, Oct 17, 2022

Have any of you used monolaurin for EBV? And if you found it effective, could you let me know what supplement brand you used?

Thanks!

Unfortunately Functional Medicine is not covered with insurance in my home state. I feel like I jump from different supplements to help my EBV, but not much helps. Any suggestions on supplements are helpful. Curious though; which one has served you the best for energy levels? Hoping everyone heals soon.

Hi @susanblan. I had recurrent EBV infections with positive IgM antibodies. However, at the root of it was nervous system dysfunction -- being stuck in the fight or flight wreaking havoc on more than my immune system. The supplement that I believed helped me the most was DHEA. It's a hormone produced by the adrenal glands. I don't recommend taking it without proper testing and recommendation from a qualified healthcare provider. It is what I needed, but not everyone who has chronic infections needs it.

Giving my body the supplements it needed was only part of being able to function again. Harnessing the power of neuroplasticity and committing to the work it entails was a game changer as well.

Wishing you all the best on your healing journey! 🙂

Thank you. I’ve hear of that, but have never researched it. I will now and see what my doc says also. Thanks again. Hope you are healing.

Hi, Colleen: Thank you for adding my question to the Infectious Diseases group. I posted it here because several people who responded to my question about the AIP diet mentioned that they have EBV, as do I. Also, I read online -- though can't remember which sites right now -- that monolaurin had been helpful for people who had both EBV and autoimmune illnesses.

My doc hasn't mentioned or recommended it. I came across monolaurin when doing some reading for another issue. I have emailed her about it to see what she knows, as she is board certified in integrative medicine and prescribes a lot of supplements.

Meantime, thank you for your response!

Hi Colleen:
I also have an integrative doctor and I am taking Monolaurin. It's only been a couple weeks. Your message is from 2022. I am wondering if your integrative doctor was o.k. for you to take Monolaurin. And Monolaurin isn't a prescription. I purchased it at my integrative facility and it can be purchased on Amazon.

I just started using Ecological Formulas. I got it at my Integrative Medicine facility. And you can get it on Amazon.

My daughter was diagnosed with EBV years ago when she was in 7th grade. She missed a semester of school. In years that followed she was diagnosed with mast cell activation and other disorders. In 7th grade the virus specialist in our city prescribed an antidepressant. I read an article about a person who had what was described as chronic fatigue syndrome who was helped with that treatment. The doctor said we would see if it would help. It did. She started to pull out of it. For several years after she would have sore glands if she did not get enough sleep. The underlying disorders were not diagnosed for decades.

Hi, my daughter is dealing with similar things. When you say the treatment helped are you talking about the antidepressant? And if so what one did they use?
Thank you

@dh7 Yes, it did help her to begin to recover. If I am remembering correctly, she was having a difficult time sleeping. That med seemed to allow her to sleep and begin to get well. That was 40 years ago so I don't remember which one. And as I said, she was diagnosed with several autoimmune disorders about 10 years ago.

@dh7 thank you. She is pretty hardheaded about having the life she wants. She is really in a good place now.
