Periodic dizziness, fainting and feeling like passing out
I wonder if this is even the right forum? Please point out the right one if it's not. My wife (age 52) has had this symptom many years. She would feel dizzy, faint and almost passing out (not to a point to lose consciousness completely yet). But when it comes, it's pretty severe and she feel she would pass out. This happens every a few months. She has gone MRI for brain and blood testing. All test numbers are normal (except low Iron). She has been taking Iron pills and try to raise her number. Other than Iron, what kind of tests should we ask doctor to further diagnose?

@rjtx I have these symptoms off and on — haven’t figured it out-
Perhaps low blood sugar or blood pressure. I also take iron pills.

1 Reaction@lacy2 and all you dizzy Connectors: I've been very dizzy for many years, with numerous blackouts that send me by ambulance to the hospital.
I've got serious IBS and my doctors have finally diagnosed this issue as Vasovagul Syndrome. I concur with their diagnoses.

3 ReactionsTo add to what Lori said about it sounding like it could be low BP, I have been diagnosed with POTS which is Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome. In a nut shell, this means BP drops, but pulse goes up when the person stands up. This is esp difficult for me bc my BP is already low before I even stand up. My dr prescribed something for it plus a supplement. Together these are holding my BP up and steady. But it’s still a relatively low-ish BP.

2 Reactions@johnbishop This video describes what has happened to me twice over a 7-month period. I was gardening the first time and walking the second time. Each time I felt lightheaded, tried to "tough it out" and totally passed out. I bit my tongue each time and had temporary memory loss. Went through a full series of cardio and neurological tests at the hospital each time, but long QT wasn't mentioned as a possible cause. I should mention that I have intermittent Afib, first diagnosed in August of 2025.

5 ReactionsShe could have hypotension. That's what I have and I experience lightheadedness. It can also make a person experience dizziness, so it's something to check out.

2 ReactionsSpeak with your doctor about D3 and B12 supplements. Both are very important to cardiac and neurologic health, and low levels can cause multiple issues as we age.

2 ReactionsI feel like this when my Afib kicks in hard. Afib is very difficult to catch in-office and even with an ECG like a Zio Patch that you wear for 2 weeks at a time.
I self diagnosed with the help of my Fitbit which I wear 24/7, but it took a couple of years for the docs to catch me in an episode.
Ask for cardiology consult if you haven't already.

3 Reactions@kjoed53 I heartily agree with D3 with magnesium. The B12 is so important also.
I have believed in supplementing our solid foods for years with vitamin supplements. The D and magnesium brought he out of a very bad episode of health. Also stopped for me being dizzy at times. As an example, I would raise from bed and the room would be spinning, so to speak.

1 ReactionI feel light headed when I get up after laying down or from a chair. I always pause for a moment to let my blood pressure get up to my head. Then I proceed to walk. If I don't pause long enough usually 5-10 seconds, then I feel a little dizzy

I'm surprised that blood work to check vitamin and mineral levels is not part of our annual physical since it is a known issue as we age. My cardiologist put me on vitamin D3 and B12 years ago and I still take my multivitamin each night. If more effort was put into prevention, maybe we wouldn't need to see as many doctors.
