Palpitations

Posted by deevon @deevon, Apr 12 11:38pm

Hi, so I have been dealing with palpitations for about 2 years now. I’m 18 And I have been trying to figure out the cause of them they effect my whole day when it occurs. I experience thuds , skips , fluttering. And each time they trigger me, i had a lot of problems with anxiety but when i was on antidepressants they help me stabilize it. So now im at a moderate level of anxiety I try to keep it reduced. I went to the cardiologist 2 times now first time was a monitor for 2 weeks after an ekg, then second time same thing except ekg. The results from the dr said it looked good just had low heart rate and they found a right bundle branch block , which could explain most of it. But they said it looked good but I just don’t know because I still deal with them daily like when sitting, laying, standing so I don’t know how to handle this. And if diet or exercise affects them.

I am 72 years old and have dealt with heart palpitations on and off my whole life. Caffeine has always been a trigger for me, so if you drink it, you need to stop and see if it helps. Also, several doctors have recommended I take magnesium around 400-600 mg a day but it can cause diarrhea in some people so you need to start a lower dose to see how it affects you. Some forms like magnesium citrate are more prone to cause diarrhea. Magnesium glycinate is a good form to take. You might ask your cardiologist if it is OK to take it. My cardiologist was one of the doctors who recommended it. I also have an anxiety disorder although it didn’t begin until 5 years ago, but anxiety can definitely cause heart palpitations. I know they are very unsettling and there are medications which can control them if they become problematic. I’m sure your cardiologist will work with you to figure all this out. Let me know if you have any questions.

@1oldsoul thank you for sharing your story with me I appreciate that. I just wanna figure out how to reduce them on a daily basis, so I don’t have to think about them constantly. I was thinking starting magnesium but I don’t know if they would work.. the cardiologist said there where no abnormal rhythms found, but it feels my rhythm feels weird so I don’t know.

@deevon I understand your anxiety with this issue because it’s your heart and that’s always unsettling, you’ve had help from your doctors and they feel that everything looks good, this helps a lot but the symptoms can still be stressful. I had rapid heartbeats after getting covid and nothing showed up except that my heart rate was high, the anxiety didn’t help either, it’s very good that you’re seeing the doctor and they will help to keep you safe, the rest is for you to try and control your anxiety and avoid anything that affects your mental and physical health.
