Hi, I had a Meningioma tumor removed in 2013 but in December I was told it was back, my Dr said we would check in a years time, I just was wondering if anyone knew how fast it grows

Sorry you have to wait and see how fast it grows and go from there. mine they say took a year to metastasize in my brain from my lung. mine wad different because it was cancer but the doctor say they can predict how long one will take to grow. Personal opinion is get it checked no later than 6 months, but that's me. Good luck and sending a prayer your way for strength and wisdom to get the answers you are looking for.

@nannymitch I couldn't wait a year, not that I don't have the patience, I just don't want the chance of it getting away from me and being on the raw end of the deal. I'm gonna send you a prayer------- sent 🙏 the way time passes, a year isn't like when we were young and always in a hurry.

My best friend had 5 benign meningiomas. She had them removed in the late '90s. A few grew back in like 2008 and a couple in New areas, and had her 2nd brain surgery Unfortunately, this caused some seizure activity and vision issues. In 2023, they came back like a vengeance and she had her 3rd brain surgery. She only survived a couple days afterwards. She fought the hard fight, working her farm and managing rental properties right up til the 3rd surgery. Fight like heck my dear. Cindy regularly did NOT do what the doctors said, and that's on her.

Nancymitch: My neuro doc told me a typical growth rate is about 1 to 2 millimeters a year. (2 millimeters would be about 1/16th of an inch.) I agree with Randy Shields not to wait a year because if the meningioma is more aggressive the growth rate could be more than 1 to 2 millimeters and why take the chance of allowing it to grow to the point where it may impact surrounding structures. If your 6 month recheck indicates it is slow growing I would ask your doctor if you can relax and assume it is not an aggressive tumor.

It was removed in 2013 and so they would have had tissue to biopsy. They probably have an idea how fast it might grow back, based on the pathology report, not that the prediction will be right or that they necessarily will volunteer the information. But the kind and grade of the original meningioma may be relevant.

Best wishes to you going forward. The sense of uncertainty can be hard to handle. I know; I had a stage 2 meningioma removed 9 years ago and still get depressed before the next scheduled MRI.

methel: How often do you have repeat MRIs, every 6 months or once a year?
