Doctors don’t take the time to evaluate the patient properly let alone talk to their patients to really get to know and help them. Each patient gets 8 minutes of you are lucky. The American Medical Field has gone to hell I am sorry to say! It’s not up to the patient to research, diagnose and determine their own treatment. Dr Welby would roll over in his grave if he saw the practice of modern medicine today.
@abosier65 That time has long past unfortunately. Psychiatrists used to do both and actually spend time getting to know you.
Now you see someone that prescribes medication or someone that keeps you coming back like a chiropractor.
I wish you luck.

What ever you do not let the doc. put you on benzos for more than 4 weeks or you will develop a tolerance or dependence on it and the road to getting off it is most often long and painful.
Do not go cold turkey but tapper very, very slowly and research your options very carefully.' At only after .5 mg for five months, it may take me a year or so to get free of them.

@gunshy I think much like when opioids first came on the market benzodiazepines were though to be non addictive. I have stayed on them because they balance out my other medications and I have kept my dosage the same for over 36 years.
Having just turned 75 this month and because I don’t drink or smoke and vigorously exercise 6-7 days a week my PCP told me to keep taking them. Withdrawal is difficult and her practice is entirely senior citizens and if they continue to drink she will tell them they have to get off them or quit drinking. Most quit drinking.
Good luck in your efforts to get off them.
@lisalucier I had that done years ago when it was called ECT and from my personal experience, it made me worse as in I lost many memories that I had to look at photos and hear stories to regain them....just my experience..

I got super high anxiety, when my heart seemed to jump around in my chest, which I had never had before, and I didn’t immediately sense a heartbeat. So, I took an ECG reading on my smartwatch! The ECG stated that I was in Atrial fibrillation, and in red letters, stated that I was to call my doctor right away, and call 911, to have help come right away. I was feeling a bit light headed, so I woke my wife up. It was 5;30 am. She told me to call 911. I was anxious, but did not panic. I decided to take one more ECG, before I dialed 911. The second ECG stated that I had returned to normal sinus rhythm. So, I didn’t call 911, and I called my Electrophysiologist that morning. I have been very anxious during the weeks since! A cardiac monitor was put on my chest, for two weeks, which showed another A-fib attack that lasted 50 minutes. I am fearful of having a stroke!
I also have a-fib it can be scary had to have a watchman device put in to keep me from having a stroke I would definitely check into that again its called Watchman hope this helps out
@celia16 try living with two family members that are not narcissist basically they suck life right out of me deal with a lot of anxiety and depression being around these type of people they drag you down completely to the ground and stomp on you
I use an Alpha Stim for anxiety. It works, maybe even better than medication. My therapist prescribed it but I had to buy the device, as insurance does not cover it. Alpha also works for depression and insomnia.
I also recently started neurofeedback sessions to retrain my subconscious to self regulate.
Both methods are good alt to medication, to stay present.
I adopted a dog -Ryder- from an Indian reservation 6 years ago. He has saved my life 5 times since then.He is a wonderful companion and service dog.
We walk up to 5 miles a day in parks, zoos, gardens , etc.
I also crochet shawls etc and give them to my church. I “include “hugs” in the stitches.
Each day I begin and end my day recounting all my blessings and how grateful I am!

@davi0284 well sounds like you have the situation well in hand, a companion that is faithful and true to you. That in itself is a miracle in the best way. Able to walk that many miles is a stress reliever and the dog is one too. your hobby helps others and you have a church group that seems to cover you there. I have a lot of stress in my life and had a major anxiety problem that was subconscious and found out last minuet like in my awareness of my little spot in life. medications and a counselors have turned the tide for me. on to many meds to say exactly what works and what does not. I am still under my caregivers watchful eyes. sounds like you are well ahead of me for now, but i am trying to change how i live and maintain my days. hope you find what you are searching for and have a blessed day today. Sending a prayer that you find what you need----sent.
