Hormone Replacement starting at 75yrs old

Posted by curlyqlinda1 @curlyqlinda1, Jan 23, 2024

Doing reach, I have decided to try HRT with testosterone, very low dose. I’m in pretty good health, but was diagnosed with Polymyalgia Rhuematica 2yrs ago. I’m Just trying to make a better life with what yrs I have left. There are so many positive messages out there, and yes I’m on the older side. I have 6 daughters and we have all been doing a lot of reading on this subject. Is there anyone else trying HRT at an older age?

@sophie46 thank you for sharing. My previous Dr wanted me off HRT based on the old data. I’m going to request my current dr prescribe them again. The article I read suggests using methods other than pills so it doesn’t have to pass thru the liver which could increase likelihoods of blood clots & other issues

I have a estradiol/testosterone pellet inserted every 12 weeks. Estradiol vaginal cream, progesterone gel cap and a tiny bit of dhea.

@bexster I use a patch, which I change twice a week and also a cream, which I insert into my vagina. Therefore nothing passes through my liver. I hope this works well for you.

@bexster Yes, I get my hormone replacement via a prescription. I have had my ovaries, uterus and cervix removed. I use Estradot patch and Estragyn cream.

Make sure you are using a provider that is knowledgeable about hormone replacement. It isn't as simple as just getting a prescription. Depending on your age, how long since menopause, your medical history will help the doctor decide what dosage to start with and how long ramping up to the best hormone levels for you. Regular blood draws are important to check hormone levels.
In my case, I have an estradiol/testosterone pellet inserted every 12 weeks, also nightly progesterone, estradiol vaginal cream and a miniscule amount of dhea. Good luck

I am 75 this year and on estrogen since age 40 when I had a complete hysterectomy.
I also have chronic lymphocytic Leukemia (no meds). Just started an anti depression med. My dose. 100 mcg of Levothyroxine, Hasn’t changed in several years. Im reading more about T4 connecting to T3 and if it doesn’t what then and how do I know that’s an issue? Weight gain since my knee replacement in 2024 makes me wonder if I should reduce the Levothyroxine to 50 or even 25?
How are we to know ?

Are you talking about armour thyroid?
I wondered about that and dosage. I'm going to speak with my endocrinologist next week.
