Anyone been prescribed Ohtuvayre (new med)? Your experience?

Posted by kdalda75 @kndaustin71, Oct 18, 2024

Has anyone been prescribed the new COPD medication by their treatment team....Ohtuvayre? Just wondering if it now active, how it is effecting patients and how well it does/doesn't work

Ktf! What a great find.......Ohtu=02! Very subtle! I will search to see if I can find a site that will explain the different methods of pulmonary toileting. Being a 45 year veteran nurse helps a lot too! The congestion is the worse ever that is why some of the methods in conjunction with inhalers and nebulizers help and coughing continually is exhausting. The Ohtuvayre, jfsherley, is delivered via jet nebulizer twice a day. It is specifically intended to reduce secretions in a different manner (system) than Dupixent . The studies showed favorable results and was approved in June of July by the FDA. Marketing and availability through specialty pharmacies since September.

I’m stage 4 COPD emphysema and have been on oxygen 24/7 since 2016. I also have other medical issues and have been in Hospice twice.
After reading some of the comments I decided to stop because it sounded so negative and it didn’t make any sense to me.

This is not a steroid. Everyone’s body is different, so one may respond faster than another. How long have you had the disease compared to another? What about another disease are the drugs you take for that compatible?
Why not wait until you complete the 30 day supply of the drug before you comment? What if in 2 weeks or whatever you suddenly started feeling better…….. like me ….. my very first treatment, I got up from my chair to go to the bathroom and I actually felt air coming into my lungs, I wanted to jump in the air and scream “I can breathe!” tears streaming down my cheeks. I called family and friends ….you’ll never believe what happened…..
But then I went to do the 2nd application and I was disappointed beyond words because the nebulizer didn’t work. And every day that I waited for the new machine I was hopeful, OMG, I’ll be able to breath soon without being tethered to an oxygen machine, etc. When it arrived I didn’t get the same results but I know it’s the first thing that made a difference and I believe I will continue to improve. You’ve got to give the drug time. I will report when my 30 day supply ends
I’m thankful for the product and pray it continues to help improve my condition. Anything more would be God’s Miracle.

@ravenup Did you post after your 30 days? I am hesitant to try. I am stage 4 and on oxygen 24/7. I do not cough, in fact I always feel my lungs are dry. Will this make it worse? So far I have not read that anyone was worse, just no better. Please post an update!

If your stage 4 I’d try it. It will certainly moisten your lungs. I’ve tried it and doesn’t seem to do anything for me . Good luck!!

Also, I use Ipratropi/albuterol nebulizer which for me seems better than Uhtovayre. It also comes as an inhaler called Combivent.

I have stage 4 emphysema and severe pulmonary hypertension. I was on ohtuvayre for 8 weeks, i had no positive results and as a matter of fact, my SOB got MUCH worse as I continued, and I was exhausted and was getting depressed. I stopped and within a few days was back to my normal status. I use Stiolto and with O2 as needed I have managed my conditions pretty well. Everyone is different, I think you have to listen to your doctor and pay attention to your own body, you know it best! Good luck!!

I have stage 4 copd and I'm on oxygen 24//7 also. I take this medicine two a day as prescribe by my doctor, it seems to open my lungs, you just have to keep using it, for it to work. I feel a lot better now. I use the Ipratropium Bromide and Albuterol Sulfate 3 times a day, and I use the Ohtuvayre twice a day once in the morning and a night before I go to bed, at first I was having trouble with it but I called the company that I get it from and the told me have to use.
You just have to give it a little while before you feel the difference.

My name is Debra and i just read your post, the Ohtuvayre works differently then the Ipratropium, and combivent is all together different. I carry the combivent in my pocketbook as a back up for the Ipratropium because it has the same medicine.

Yes after 30 days but now I read more that it can take a couple months for Ohtuvayre to work!

@sexy17 yes ipratropium and combivent are basically emergency inhalers. Ohtuvayre is a maintenance nebulizer. You could be on both meds at sane time but ipratropium and combivent have same meds as most steroid inhalers like trelegy and breztri so it is not recommended at all to take that as long as you are on the steroid inhalers. too much of same meds. Should only be used short term like a flareup, if even then.
