Non arteritic ischemic optic neuropathy
Over the past month 55 year old son has lost vision in one eye. He has seen an ophthalmologist, had an MRI, was told that nothing can be done. Are there any treatments for this.

@bgoren I'm sorry if I gave you the wrong impression I didn't have NAION in my eyes I only responded to the post where weezy1935 was talking about cataract surgery I wanted to let her know how mine went . I'm sure the Dr you go to can advice you on this matter
I was just diagnosed with NAION I am 61, lost vision in my right eye. I heard there is clinic in Berlin, Germany doing therapy and electrical stimulation to relieve it. Does anyone know anything about this? It is called Fedorov
is the study closed? Did they find out anything?
@weezy1939 I have NAION in both eyes.Have you seen a Mayo doctor? I have been told nothing can be done. Have you been told Fedorov can help NAION or other eye problems?
@weezy1939 I went to Bascom Palmer, here in Florida. No hope. Asked them about the Federov clinic in Berlin, no comment. I am going to fill out the info and see if I find out more. Maybe they will have verified testimonials. It is not surgery or injections, just electrical stimulation and therapy.
@weezy1939 I was told the nerves? or what they are called and there are thousands of them have been destroyed. My NAION happened in right eye in 2011 so until this past winter I lived with that. Many people live with one eye and most of the time I forgot that I had very limited eyesight in right eye. It's unusual I was told that it happens in both eyes and I hope that is the case for you. My eye doctor who has been practicing for thirty years has only seen it 3 times in both eyes. Best of luck to you
I have NAION in my left eye. A month ago, I had cataract surgery in my right eye - and all went well. I now understand my left (NAION) eye also has a cataract. I'm trying to decide if its worth risking the small amount of sight I have in that eye to do the surgery. Has anyone had cataract surgery on an eye where they suffered NAION? If yes, what was the outcome? Thanks!
Does pressure reducing drops treat naion
@splq1955 - welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect.
Hoping members like @weezy1939 @drealtormia @pedie @greyhound3 @bgoren will share with you how they it their lives one with non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION) have been treated.
Have you experienced any vision loss, splq1955?
@weezy1939 MayoClinic doctor and my own eye doctor did not recommend anything except to take good care of my health. Lack of sight has caused me to slow down physically which then causes other problems. Hard to walk in crowds and winter weather so I am in Florida for a month where I can walk fast on beach and not bump into people. When I get back home I am having cataract surgery and hope it clears up what little sight I have. Have any of you had cataract surgery in eye with NAION? My doctor doesn't think it will help but hope I prove him wrong.
