Have you been told no to hrt if you are 10+ years post menopause?
Starting hrt 10 years post menopause and the flawed Women's health initiative study.
I have been told no and yet the current findings seem to indicate that hrt can still help.

I haven't found a doctor who will put me back on hrt. They all want me to do prolia, instead. Of course they are all males. It's terrible to be a 68 year old woman in 2025.

I’m 75 and in good health even after a mitral valve repair and a pacemaker implant. I am just over the border in osteoporosis, had a REMs scan too. My bone quality isn’t as great as I had hoped.
Just did a 24 hour urine collection and blood work . Endo told me to hold upon calcium until we meet.
I’m resisting meds currently. Doing much research. Exercising daily….
50 +Squats, long walks with jogging, hopping on one foot, Pilates,yoga, swim in warmer weather, cutting back on sugar .
I took Evista many years ago. There is breast cancer history on my mom’s side including her. The Evista Serm did fend off bone loss for many years. I’d like to revisit it if I’m allowed.
I will ask my endo if I can follow your path with the topical cream and progesterone capsule.
Thank you
Meridith
I am very upset about this! I left my gyno office in tears. I've had 7 back surgeries. The surgeries forced me into menopause now I have osteoporosis. I am 58 and exercise six days a week. I try to be very healthy. I suffer every day with depression, brain fog, and no sex drive- the list could go on! I asked her for help. She handed me a script for estrogen cream to help with painful sex & a script for Fosomax for bone loss. She refused to add anything else. It's been ten years that I've been dealing with this. I have a long relationship with this doctor. I want my life back!

5 Reactions@belladawn13 JMO Throw the Fosomax (poison) script away and find a new doctor. I have a friend who is dealing with this and she is searching for a new doc. Look for bioidentical hormone replacement. My primary care offers BioT (which is the brand) I can't afford it because other than the blood work the pelets are out of pocket. I worked for a healthcare facility and met many of the nurses who were on this and swore by it.
@joycecates
I respect your experience but one woman's poison is another woman's salvation. Fosomax/alendronate worked very well at stopping further bone loss and I had no noticeable side effects.

When I started bhrt at 76, I had estradiol patches, compounded testosterone cream, progesterone gel capsules and vaginal estradiol cream. Much more reasonably priced than pellets and if you are on medicare labs, cream, progesterone and patches covered in my case. I have original medicare, part d, and a supplemental part f.

Try functional medicine.
Also, are you asking them or telling them? Make sure that you take the latest Information on hrt and bhrt....research links, etc. they may not be up to date or their medical system may be the problem. What are they telling you about your particular health profile and their hormone concerns.

I started menostar just a few weeks ago. This is an ultra low dose patch specifically for osteoporosis along with prometrium. Are you still using what you mention (estradiol patches, compounded testosterone cream, progesterone gel capsules and vaginal estradiol cream) or have you made any changes? Thank you!
@tillymack
I switched to estradiol/testosterone pellets. Everything else is the same.
Is that working better, especially with regard to bones?
