I imagine you test your Oxygen saturation with an oximeter to make sure you are getting enough. If not you really should consider having your Dr test you to see if you need to be on Oxygen.

@joyeous
Are you on Oxygen?

Hello Joyeous, Yes I thought you might be on Oxygen based on your post. I am also on Oxygen and can relate to what you wrote. I try to keep it set at 2.5 or 3. I can still cook but usually have to sit at the kitchen counter to prep things. The only way I can clean the house is on a good day one room at a time but with my husbands help. Right now my whole house needs cleaning badly! I do best when sitting. Late afternoons I am able to get on the treadmill for 20 min set at a flat and easy pace. I started Brinsupri recently and wonder if it will work in my case. Have they put you on it? Do you also have hypercapnia? I do. Take care. I can certainly relate.

I finally had to make a decision yesterday. I have been trying hard everyday no matter what to either do video-guided exercises at home for 20 minutes or walk 2 miles. On most days that exertion causes me a painful and irresistible exhaustion that puts me horizontal for much of the remaining hours of the day. I just can't fight it anymore, I am going to reduce the exercise and see if life is less depressing and discouraging. Many people say exercise gives them energy - I've tried for so long and I am not one of that group.

There comes a time when we can't, for various reasons, do a detailed long exercise program.
At 83, with not having done much exercising throughout my life, I am now doing some due to my BE and mucus.
I limit mine and do just enough movements while sitting up in the bed. Movements meaning the legs and arms in a easy motion especially to keep the joints in better condition. Of course there are other benefits to easy movement and motion. I do walk for fifteen minutes each morning and some mornings, for various reasons, I just walk. I walk in the house...when I feel it is best to avoid the outside temperatures. How life changes, for most of us, as we journey through life.

It sounds like you are doing pretty good. Not lazy at all. 18 holes of golf, PT, and bridge with friends. Awesome. I get so exhausted trying to go from bedroom to kitchen just to make coffee. I'm good as long as I'm sitting in a reclining position and not moving around. I can't prepare meals anymore, or clean my house. Tasks that previously took a half hour can now take me all day due to resting every couple mins. So I've just decided to do the things that are most important to me and let the rest go. It sounds like you are already doing that so don't give yourself a guilt trip about being lazy. Do what you enjoy as long as you can.

@joyeous you sound like me...they say exercise would help with lung function. My lungs are functioning at 42%. How can you exercise when you can't get your breath. I, like you, struggle and pant going from 1 room to another. No more cooking or cleaning house. Feel great while I'm sitting. That's why I sit a lot. I was always active but those days are gone. My pulmonologist has tried so many things. Pick lines, antibiotics, rehab and nothing has helped.

@rpec Has the doctor talked about using supplemental oxygen? It really is important to keep moving to avoid losing even more capability.

I have been on oxygen but it doesn't help. I can be on oxygen and try to do anything I still pant just as much as with no oxygen. Normally doing nothing my oxygen will be 93/94. Now with or without oxygen and do anything physical it will drop to 87/88 but soon as I sit it goes back up. I rarely use it anymore. My problem is my lungs are working hard to try and pump the oxygen out. Since they are functioning at 42%, that's why.

Do you see a pulmonologist? Did you have pulmonary function test? And do you have oxymeter and check your oxygen level? Something is definitely wrong and please call your family doctor, say everything and ask for tests and a referral to a pulmonologist- Insist do not ask although I know how hard it is tomorrow demand things. Please get help

@lilianna I have a regular pulmonologist who specializes in bronchiestis. I have done the 6 minute walk and it does not drop below 93 which is hard for me to understand when I'm panting and I had to stop twice during the walk to try and get some breath. Oxygen is there lungs just can't get it out. I constantly check my oxygen level at home.

@rpec
Have they checked your blood gases? Do you have Hypercapnia? A build up of CO2.
The treatment focuses on managing the underlying cause and improving breathing, ranging from non-invasive support like CPAP/BiPAP and oxygen therapy alongside medications (bronchodilators, steroids). There is not much that can be done about it but usually staying on Oxygen is crucial.
