Does anyone take Zetia only for cholesterol?

Posted by janieben @janieben, Jun 8, 2024

My GP recently prescribed Zetia, 10 mg per day, due to a 201 score for cholesterol. Does anyone have experience taking only Zetia for cholesterol? He said he would like to see my score around 150 to prevent future issues. I am 72 and in relatively good health. Does Zetia have any side effects I should know about?

Thank you! My doc said it should lower it 20% so we’ll see. He said if I have any problems at all to tell him and we would stop and try Repatha.

Tried statins and zetia. Bad reactions to all. Paid out of pocket for a cardiac calcium test. Came in at 322. Yay! Not so bad, even my cardiologist agrees. I'm putting that on the back burner, since I have other issues. Namely, SMM and periodontitis. My sister-in-law has been on statins her whole life. She just had a bunch of stents put in! It seems to be more of an inflammation issue than high cholesterol. And genetics.

I take only Zetia (generic) and have experienced no side effects. I’m 77 and I have been taking it for many years. I have been unable to tolerate statins after multiple try’s.

I’m 73 and trying to get my HgA1C down below 6.0 in order to mitigate my recently dx’d cardiovascular disease.

In response to a scary CT Calcium Score of 1146 my Rosuvastatin was increased from 5 mg to 20 mg. So far I am tolerating that well.

Next step is to determine my ApoB and Lp(a) lipid load maybe followed by adding Zetia.

May request a CT Angiogram too. My goal is to understand how much plaque I have in my vessels and how this affects blood flow speed and volume.

Do I sound like I have a sound plan in place?

70 year old male with 3 stents last year. Old primary MD put me on Zetia 2 years ago because of my high cholesterol and allergy to statins and within 2 weeks I developed acute pancreatitus and had to be hospitalized just like I did 20 years earlier because of Lipitor. Geez!
Now I'm on Repatha and so far so good and my lipid levels have never been as low as they are now...and, my HDL is up!
