Does anyone take Zetia only for cholesterol?

Posted by janieben @janieben, Jun 8 3:12pm

My GP recently prescribed Zetia, 10 mg per day, due to a 201 score for cholesterol. Does anyone have experience taking only Zetia for cholesterol? He said he would like to see my score around 150 to prevent future issues. I am 72 and in relatively good health. Does Zetia have any side effects I should know about?

I was afraid to take Zetia also because my trial with three different statins was absolutely horrible, so much pain. I did not have any side effects from that. I am also on Repatha

I'm going to have a serious discussion with my cardiologist in early December. From all I have read and heard, it might that Repatha would be my best choice. Current Medicare drug plan does not cover it, but the one I signed up for in January does. Zetia is less expensive but not as effective at lowering LDL and seems to have more side effects? He mentioned those 2 meds as he knows I cannot and will not tolerate life on statins.

Did your doctor tell you to take CoQ10 when you got on statins? He/she should have. It helps reduce the pain often experienced from statins because statins decrease CoQ10 levels in the body. That is why many red yeast rice products (a natural statin) contain CoQ10.

No, he did not mention CoQ10. I will get red yeast rice, I believe.

I’ll take Repatha and it lowered my LDL down to 20 I believe it is. It is amazing, no side effects except I am a little tired the day after I use an EpiPen twice a month, and it is so easy I could not tolerate statins, and the Zetia could not lower it enough. It is covered by my Medicare and Teacher retirement services health insurance. I only pay $25 for two injections. I highly recommend it.

There’s also another med similar to Repatha called Prauluren. Not sure of the spelling of it

I've been on ezetimibe (Zetia) for 10-20 years because I could not tolerate statins and don't recognize any side effects.

I'm a litle confused. Do you use the epipen twice a month because you are allergic to Repatha? Repatha has been suggested for me. So I am interested in any information about those who have used it. Thank you.

No, I take Repatha injections twice a month. I am not allergic to anything. Statins caused me a whole lot of pain. It was awful.

Oh, I see the one poster who responded to me that was confused about taking r Repatha ! It is self administered twice a month through a device that it is a button, pushing injector needle, I call it an EpiPen it’s the wrong term analogy, sorry
