This and That and Talk - My Transplant

Posted by Rosemary, Volunteer Mentor @rosemarya, Apr 9, 2017

As our Mayo Connect community grows, I am constantly meeting organ transplant members on a wide variety of forums with a wide range of issues that are not directly transplant specific. However, because we are all transplant recipients, we have a special connection: a unique journey and best of all - a new life! We don't always need help or advice. Many times we just want to chat with someone like us! That is my purpose in starting This and That and Talk.

Drop in and say 'Hi'. You are welcome anytime.

What do you want t to talk about? What words can you offer to someone who is on the journey? Do you have any questions for another recipient?

@rosemarya I have to update my comments about the music in my church. I went to the midnight mass on Christmas and the music was lovely. There was a very good choir. I guess the Masses I generally attend just do not get the choir. It was so nice, and the church was surprisingly only about half-full. I had anticipated a much larger attendance at that Mass. I really enjoyed it despite almost falling asleep at one part of the liturgy.

HaHaHa! about the sleeping.
JK, that is one reason I don't do midnight service anymore. Around here, the churches are all doing midnight services at 10 or 8 o'clock.

Hi, Jeanne. I am getting prepared for the family coming here tomorrow. The verdict is out on whether several small celebrations are easier, or more difficult! Between birthdays, and coordinating work schedules during the holidays, it has been interesting. Luckily, me and my husband are retired and can be flexible.
How are you getting along? Has any of the itching subsided? Any recent liver news? What are your thoughts about this "liver stuff' as the new year arrives?

@rosemarya It is a dilemma, a large gathering or several smaller ones, but large ones are great if everyone pitches in. Is the gathering at your home? Is so, how many people will that entail? Too bad you don't live closer, I would drop by with some apps or goodies. 😉 I'm on roll now! During my "retirement" when my children were around, I actually thought about doing part-time, low-key catering but being migraine prone I decided that would not be a good idea. How would I handle it if I had a migraine on the day when someone was expecting great food? My food tastes good, but I am not a food stylist at all, so it looks pretty plain generally, which is why my kids were impressed with my cupcakes -- I swirled frosting on with a fluted pastry bag!

@rosemarya I just knew I did not want to go on Christmas morning, even though that day was pretty quiet, just went to my sister's for an easy meal since her three children were up in a ski area. I was able to do some of the things though to prepare for the next day, when we entertained 13 people, 9 for dinner (was supposed to be 10).

Ginger, How was the time away?

@rosemarya Thank you for asking. We checked out a few areas to consider for retirement. Spoke to some locals to get their input. And had to revise our route home due to high winds and chain requirements on the way back. A long day driving today, and the cat is sure happy to see us home! The neighbor is a nice person who kept her dishes filled and litter box cleaned, but she had no one to cuddle with at night.

@jodeej Our Church has a 4:30, 7:30 and midnight. The 4:30 Mass is always standing room only even though they fill a second hall and transmit the Mass over there. We always go to a friend’s home on Christmas Eve so the 7:30 was not possible. I would normally be fine at a midnight Mass (if our posts were time-stamped you would see that often I am up at 1:00 on the computer) but I was so busy in the preceding days that I was exhausted.

@rosemarya
SLEEP? I am often awake at strange hours typing away not realizing people might be disturbed. Once a friend scolded me because he leaves his phone handy and on listening for an emergency call from his sick mother.....
church is the beach for me...but I enjoy going every once in awhile.

Itching update...4xs to PCP...3xs to derm ..PCP on vacation for a week next appt with Derm PA on the 3rd. Steriod creams, antihistamines and diet elimination not working. Liver bloodwork A+. Not scabies, lice or any other critters....my house is spotless and the laundry machine are on overdrive...lol. So...yesterday I went to the ER. No tests or answers. They put me on prednizone for the 4th time. It is relieving the fiery itch somewhat...but as you see...now I'm awake and full of energy...
Maybe I'll never need a new liver...Ill just invent a professional scratcher...lol

@jeanne5009 I've been up for awhile also, but I'm in the central time zone! Lol I can't imagine how horrible it must be to be constantly itchy. I pray you get relief, soon.
Blessings,
JoDee
