Is anyone using a cpap mask that's causing face wrinkles

Posted by summer091111 @summer091111, Nov 24 10:23pm

I've been using a cpap mask for a year and noticing how it's wrinkling my face so much. I'm struggling with the masks I've tried but can't seem to find the right fit. Can anyone please tell me what else I can do to keep from aging so fast? All help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I would take my mask or nasal off during my hours of sleep not knowing I was doing it. Yes I also questioned myself about added facial wrinkles, as I was making the bed in the morning I was already thinking about my afternoon naps, long story short, 4 months ago I had the Inspire put in, and I love it!

I literally couldn’t wear any face masks b/c I felt like someone was smothering me—so I’d wake up and yank them off.
Thanks to my son, I discovered the Rio II nasal air mask. It’s a small mask with soft nasal pillows (not hard plastic cannulae) that I almost don’t feel. It comes with headgear and runs around $69.00.
I’ve gone from not using my cpap machine (dangerous) to using it from around 8-10 hours every night. I’ve begun to notice more alertness, less fatigue etc.
I never did get wrinkles from older masks (probably because I didn’t keep them on that long!) and that’s certainly not an issue with this mask.
Good luck!

@doclarrea thank you very much for sharing this information with me. But I think these crinkles on my cheeks are more from the cpap mask. I've been using the cpap 1 year and I started noticing that it's more crinkles then wrinkles. Things I've tried and still trying doesn’t seem to be working. I'm only 69 and up until I was diagnosed with sleep apena last year I didn't show anything on my face. So I've been very curious if this is something normsl that happens while using a cpap mask, if anyone else on cpap machine noticed the same or something like not having a proper mask. I've spoke to my dr about it but she doesn't know, I've seen a dermatologist and all she did was offered her expensive creams or face lift that would cost an arm and a leg or more. But no real answers to my question. Does this happen using a cpap mask?

Yes, my husband has noticed wrinkles in his face since using the cpap. And, my husband is not someone who pays attention to this kind of a thing. I agree with him, his face does appear to have more wrinkles. He asked me for suggestions. I told him to apply face cream each night before putting on the mask. Maybe that will help.

@equanimous thank you very much for sharing your husband's experience with the cpap mask. I used Olay night cream along with nacinamide face cream every night. I'm hoping to see some change soon. I know that I'll see some wrinkles but these really don't appear like normal aging wrinkles. That's why it concerns me so much. I hope the creams works out for your hubby. Best of luck.

@5148branelly thank you very much for sharing your experience regarding the cpap mask. I have tried several types of masks with one being a nasel mask. I was really excited to try it when I received it. But when I started the machine I had so much air coming out of my mouth that I had to quickly take it off, which I did and threw it on the floor. My issue with those is that apparently i sleep with my mouth open that the dr said it wouldn't work out for me. I too have gotten to the point of not wanting to use it all. I've had nothing but headaches trying to find the right mask and see true results. I have severe sleep apena and my dr keeps insisting that I do whatever it takes to use it every night. I'm happy to hear that you found one that works real good for you. I wish you many more years of great sleep 😴.

@barbsbaileyboo I've thought about the Inspire as well. Is it put in arm or chest? You didn't have any issues with it right after it was put in? If I could. I would rather go that direction. Not only because of the facial wrinkles, but to truly see good results from a very good night's rest. Thank you very much for sharing your experience. Wishing you many more healthy 💤 😴.

I’ve used the mask for 2 years and yes the wrinkles are a necessary evil associated with wearing the mask. I also have strangers greet me by “do you wear a mask?” Wow, I doesn’t bug me much!

Try sleep mouth tape! Google for brand names. It’s designed to be comfortable and not interfere w/ breathing.
It might work!

@5148branelly any specific type? I've tried a few but I haven't been able to keep it on once I put the mask on. You can't imagine how many things I have purchased to make things work for me including chin straps. I'll keep looking to see if I can find one that I may be able to handle. Thank you very much for sharing this information with me, Be bless.

I've never found a mask I didn't like. 🙂

in regard to your question, I've seen people at church with ask wrinkles. I vowed, "Not me".

I cream my cheeks and my forehead and I take the mask off 2 hours b4 get up time which time seldom varies on my retired schedule.

They always go away, but I am aging and aging brings wrinkles?
