Eliquis side effects
3 months ago I had a blood clot removed from my Mesenteric artery.
I have been on eliquis 3 months, I am having leg pain, weakness, and I am fatigued. Do all blood thinners make people tired and weak?

I’m curious, how long have you been on Eliquis and what is milligrams that you take? I take 5 mg in the morning and five at night
Thanks
I started after AFib incident in May 2024. I take 2.5 mg mornings and again evenings. I weigh about 130 lbs. I have had more varicose or visible veins in arms and legs than before, but nothing terrible.
I know an overweight man who is an MD himself (not sure of his specialty). He was taking the tiniest microdose of Eliquis and had a brain bleed type stroke (I am not sure of correct vocabulary here. I meant to distinguish a bleed-type from a clot-type event.) He seems to be pretty well recovering, but it has been months of effort.
@gwenvc My husband went on Xarelto for a DVT and his hand swelled up. After exhausting all tests they switched him to Eliquis. Hand and wrist very painful. Steroids stopped pain and swelling but as soon as steroids are done pain is back. I say it is a side effect but Dr. thinks it is pseudogout. No one ever wants to listen to the patient.

Sorry, I don’t know if I replied back to your response from November. I’m just seeing it now. I guess I take 5 mg morning and five at night.

It certainly can be a side effect. I had significant problems with Eliquest including joint pain. I quit it after only 2 months and I got much better but still have joint pain. It was never a problem before! Plus my doctor's nurse said joint pain wasnt on her list of side effects! Drugs.com LISTS joint pain as a common side effect.

2 ReactionsI had 8 miserable months of side effects from this medication! Discovered it myself through researching primarily on NIH. I had been on Coumadin for many years....had zephyr valves inserted so upon my return the physician changed me to eliquis to avoid the lab work and having to monitor the PT/INR. About one week after starting I had the worse case of vertigo, vertigo and dizzy spells (sometimes up to 3-4 a day) left me almost incapacitated. Previously had been a gym goer 3X a week, independent. I came across 6-8 case studies of individuals who had been on coumadin then changed to eliquis experiencing the same symptoms. Then discovered a 2023 research article siting these same studies concluding that the eliquis was the culprit, the dizzy/vertigo stopped when the patients were returned to their coumadin. I showed this to the physician, I stopped taking elequis and lo and behold......no more dizzy spells and/or vertigo after 8 months. Finally I was able to return to the gym but had become deconditioned from lack of working out and had to slowly work myself back to baseline - no easy task! I would much rather have PT/INR's done and monitored that way than the "easy" way. Sometimes these new generation drugs leave alot to be desired! Am a firm believer the less prescription drugs you take the better off you are! BTW I am a well seasoned RN so have not been flighty in my research and review of the available literature.

4 Reactions@rebeccadixon hello when you say you quit it - do you take something else ? Or are you just taking chances?
I was changed from clopidogeral to eloquis as I had a previous incidental infarct of brain - only symptoms mild thumb tremors- and since said to be at risk of acquiring AFib due to a bit of tachycardia but my heart rate is generally in 50s unless exerted. So cannot take beta blockers. However I have been waking up to severe leg pain left leg which goes if I get up. I also have neck pain.
