Oral lichen Planus: What home remedies or medications help you?
Anyone in the group suffer from Oral Lichen Planus. I am at my wits end with all these erosive sores in my mouth. I've had two biopsies , one in the inside cheek and one under the side of my tongue. The spot under the tongue is extremely sore to touch and has been for over a year. It scares me because the soreness never goes away, sometimes it isn't as sore but nothing helps. Any home remedies for this dreadful condition?

Hi Microgirl. I've been searching for anyone who has had periodontal treatment for OLP. I'm planning to do LANAP, which sounds similar to what you did - cleaning the roots of the teeth, but I'm concerned about healing post treatment. How did this go for you after the root cleaning? Thanks for your post!

I'm very interested in how things are going for you. I have several gold fillings and have read these may be the cause of my OLP but the dentists say no. Since this is a mysterious AD, how do they know. Did you get your metal fillings replaced? Do you think it helped? Thanks for any info you can give.

Yes and it's incredibly frustrating. I think it may be due to metal in my mouth, specifically gold, but until I have it all removed, I won't know for sure. Did you figure anything out?

Thank you for this idea. I went onto the NuMedica website and it seemed like you have to be a professional to order this. I really appreciate your comment about licorice and will probably order some of that through Starwest Botanicals to see if I can get any relief from using licorice as a rinse, or create a paste with coconut oil and licorice. How were you able to order the Glutamed OTC? Thanks.

I would love to hear more about the laser treatment that you received. It's great to hear this was successful. I'm planning to do LANAP which is a laser treatment for periodontal disease, which I believe is a side effect of OLP. Your post has given me hope. Thank you.

2 Reactions@jeraberkana Glutamed is not an RX. I got it from a local pharmacy that sold Numedica products. Might have been behind the counter. However it does contain stevia which I was highly disappointed about since I’m allergic to it. Also if you have hay fever or allergic to ragweed you would be allergic to stevia. It might be available at the A store. Im still dealing with mine. On steroids. Ugh. Still using coconut oil & lidocaine rinse which is RX. It’s gone way down with not working high stree job. Best to you.

4 ReactionsI developed Lichen Planus and Sclerosis after my second confirmed Covid infection. (Literally, the second day of illness both areas exploded.) Having no clue, and in the middle of switching to a new doctor, I went from September to end December untreated, and was very bad when diagnosed. I had been experimenting with a full red light blanket for long covid, and my mouth started to heal first. I found a cheap ($30) red light belt on Temu and Amazon rated for red and UV light. I turn that belt into a circle with the velcro...put it at the highest setting for 20 minutes 3x/week, and it has gone into remission. It only comes back slightly when migraines prevent me from remembering to treat it. It also works beautifully on the lichen sclerosis(vaginal). I open the belt and lay it front to back on the closed lid of the toilet. I put a couple of layers of toilet paper on it and straddle the belt on highest setting for 30 minutes 3x/week. I hope this is able to help someone.

2 Reactions@laurelsorensen Wait--how do you use a red light belt for an oral problem like oral lichen planus?

1 ReactionRed light penetrates through the skin several inches. I make a circle using the velcro on the belt there is a section of about 4 inches that is not lights where the belt overlaps, and is velcro. But almost all of the circle is lights on the inside. I slip the belt over my head, and set it for 20 minutes, level 4, both uv and red light. While the belt is on my head, I keep my mouth open so the light gets through the skin, but is also able to get to the inside where bone would stop it from penetrating. When the 20 minutes is over, the light automatically shuts off.
