Afraid it the treatment meds for osteoporosis
I’m 68 with latest spine score of-37. My body type is very thin with BMI 19- but I eat extremely healthy diet and do excellent exercise every day - no falls. I have no other health issues so dont need to take medications. I’m totally petrified to take any of the medications I’ve been told I need for treatment of osteoporosis. I don’t know what to do! I know breaking bones will be awful but I’m so weary of these poisons they want to put in my body.

@mahonlye the drugs help with density but make the quality of your bones more brittle. A Osteo surgeon told me that. Ask your doctor.

Will you take Fosamax after your Forteo ends?
I am in the same situation. I'm 75, 117 lbs and have a small build, with my worst Dexa score in my spine at -4. I can't take Forteo or Tymlos due to parathyroid issues. For me, Evenity is too new. My Dr wants me to take Fosamax, but I've decided not to take it because I've read that bisphosphonates don't actually reduce fracture risk very much. I take calcium, vitamin D, a collagen product containing Fortibone, walk and exercise. I hope I don't regret my decision to go drug free as I know my fracture risk is high.

3 Reactions@daisy17, my plan is to say on Forteo. If I have to stop Forteo, I'll take risidronate for several months. I will likely always want to return to Forteo. I feel safe on this medication.
@mahonlye I still get severe gerd periodically from actonel- got off it after 3 months- and prolia was horrible for me
@mahonlye, this is true of all the bisphosphonates, Prolia and Evenity. It isn't true of Forteo or Tymlos. Forteo is often used for osteonecrosis of the jaw and for non healing fractures. These are the medications that remodel bone and increase vascularization.
