2025 Fall Booster: Get it or not?

Posted by greenshade @greenshade, Sep 30, 2025

I am in a quandary. I've had LC since 2022. I was fully vaccinated before my first infection. In Oct 2023, I got a Pfizer booster, and my symptoms flared up and set me back for months. I have avoided boosters since then. I am mostly well now (finally!), although I still experience some fatigue and joint pain. The question is: Do I get the 2025 fall booster or not? If so, do I receive the Pfizer booster in line with my prior vaccines and boosters? Should I go to Novavax instead? Is it less problematic? Any firsthand knowledge is appreciated. THX

@raspy thanks for posting this, it gives me hope. Novavax is the only one I'm willing to try. I had had all the mRNA boosters before LC but won't go that route again. Waiting for the Novavax to come to my area, hopefully this week. 🙏

I absolutely would not recommend the vaccine if u have longcovid. U have plenty of antibodies. In fact too many. The flu vaccine yes!

@pdoubrava Thanks for your reply. I have tracked my covid antibodies since my Dx of LC. At first they read over 50,000, the 3 months later half that and earlier this year they read 0, though my LC persists. So I know I still have some immunity, I guess for me it's felt like a gamble either way get the vaccine or risk covid with a little less protection, but I understand what you're saying. Thank you.

@bajjerfan Great, I hope you're doing well. I got my Novavax two days ago. I was very nervous but did exhaustive research beforehand (and crossed my fingers for luck🤷) I have had very mild sideeffects, nothing to really speak of. My arm is still a bit sore and maybe a bit more fatigue yesterday and a bit of restless sleep ( not unusual for me as my body processes it's response.) Today, I feel my "long Covid normal" with fatigue, achy legs and am grateful to have done so well. So I call this a success and will consider only Novavax in the future. Thanks for your response.

@annies444 Good to know, and it sounds like you made the right choice. After a lot of research and soul searching, I've decided not to get any of the boosters going forward. My reaction to the last one was too dramatic and prolonged. Thanks for your response and warm regards.

@annies444 Yes, it is an unfortunate and anxious state of mind to try and sort out what makes the most sense. I wish there was more certainty and direction. Thank you.

I had the Moderna vaccine. and the flu vaccine a few weeks ago. The next day both I and my husband (who does not have long covid) had chills and fatigue but we both felt fine the next day.

@tslayden

I've never had any aftereffects from any vaccination shots.

I have Stage 4 COPD; have had COVID twice which truly did not help my lungs. I asked my Pulmonologist about the COVID vaccine and he suggested I not get it but get the flu shot. I've heard the COVID vaccines only add more problems.

@katpetlover It's interesting that your Pulmonologist suggested you not get the COVID vaccine. Most physicians are hesitant to take a stance on it. Thank you for sharing.
