Prolia treatment for osteoporosis: What is your experience?
I received the results from my bone test and they have recommended I start Prolia. I have read the side effects and I am concerned. Has anyone use this drug and if so what side effects have you experienced. Thank you

Tjis is a question that you need to ask your doctor or pharmacist.
the website IS Facebook. Facebook.com. You go to the upper left where they have a search space. Search the word osteoporosis. There will be about 4-5 groups. You DO I think need to "join" Facebook, but there is not charge.
I just got the copy of my none density. I have been on Prolia for 3-1/2 years. For the spine, my T-score increased from -2.8 to -2.3. The femoral neck and total femur did not change. I am now 59. I was diagnosed with severe osteoporosis at the age of 41. At that time, my spine was -3.7, my femoral neck was -2.6, and my mean femur was -2.5. It has taken 17 years for me to see this type of increase. I have been on Fosomax, Forteo, Reclast, and Prolia. I saw the greatest increase during the two years that I was on Forteo. The problem with it for people on Medicare is that it's going to be covered on the prescription drug plan, and it's expensive. I don't know if the manufacturer has made any special deal for Medicare recipients. @smtant
there are alot of posts with different information and we know Prolia is different for every person. I have posted here on the same issue. I have been working out for over 1 1/2 years. At the one year mark, I had my bone density done. It is a -2.5. My workouts have halted the progression of osteoporosis in my spine! No, it will not rebuild bone but no one can tell me how sturdy that rebuilt bone is. Some people have rebound fractures. I will take my chances with exercise, adding vitamin K2, magnesium to my diet.
how many years do you take prolia i have been taking it for four years have a lot of balance and knee and foot problems
I am at a negative 3.8 and will start Prolia next week. I have done much research and hope for a good return on this medication. I am nervous about starting the medication.
Good luck and let us know how it goes
I am new to this feed, I hope it’s ok to post/ask. I had a treatment of Reclast last year due to multiple compression fractures and scores of -1.9, I’m 44. This year I’m at -2.4 which is an almost 8% decrease with reclast. I honestly don’t have much faith in my endocrinologist. She’s very overworked and very short tempered. Unless I fly somewhere she’s my only option. I’m also currently dealing with cancer in my nasal cavity. My last conversation with her was basically short and left me crying. She said she didn’t think either drug Forteo or Prolia would be a problem with what’s happening in my nose, and she didn’t care which one I choose I just had to pick. Now I will say when I had the reclast I ended up in the hospital for two days on fluids and pain meds as it was terrible and very scary. She said it must be something else causing it because reclast doesn’t do that. I’m sorry for such a long post. I just feel lost. I really want a second opinion, I’m just don’t know where to go. I had to edit, as I realized I didn’t really ask a question. So basically has anyone had cancer and used either medication? Thank you in advance!
There has got to be a better endocrinologist for you! I live in CT and just found out that Yale has a bone center so I’m setting up a consult. Maybe look at the good hospitals in your area and get a referral. You shouldn’t be reduced to tears. You should be hopeful after a visit. Best of luck
You definitely need a second opinion. If a endocrinologist is not easily available, I would make an appointment with another type of medical doctor and get their opinion. It sounds like you have lost confidence in your endocrinologist and it is important that one can trust and talk to whoever is managing your healthcare. I have had osteoporosis for many years and I see a doctor of internal medicine. I took oral medicine for over five years with little improvement in my numbers, and some disturbing side-effects. It has now been over five years since I made decision to stop taking osteoporosis drugs and I might add, I refuse tests to even check my numbers as I have no intention at this time of taking them again! I've felt much better the last five years since going off the meds. I eat a diet for good bone health, exercise, and watchful that I don't do activities that might compromise my bones. My bone health may or may not have improved, but I absolutely will not go back on meds again until there are "proven" better drugs on the market. I don't know how much pain or disability you have due to your osteoporosis, but if it isn't a huge problem, maybe stepping back from the osteoporosis meds for awhile and concentrating only on the treatment for your cancer would be something you could consider. Wishing you the very best, and also my prayers.
