Prolia treatment for osteoporosis: What is your experience?
I received the results from my bone test and they have recommended I start Prolia. I have read the side effects and I am concerned. Has anyone use this drug and if so what side effects have you experienced. Thank you

Does Prolia (60mg) injection make any marked improvement in bone density esp. in Femur Neck Right and Femur Neck Left of your hips as well as AP Spine?
But do you have IMPROVEMENT?? I am willing to deal with side effects to a point IF there is proof that it works.
I had a slight improvement in a hip but didn't have any areas that declined. After I stopped Fosamax, there was a decline in bone density.
I would be careful contacting "Prolia staff".....AMGN has a lot at stake in this drug, and the staff will IMO dismiss concerns in favor of encouragement to use the product. i am looking for people who can testify as to its efficacy.
I would also like to know the results of AMGN's "risk evaluation and mitigation strategy" as well as the results of the surveillance program to monitor more than 4,500 women already taking the drug back in 2010 .
The most common side effects with Prolia (seen in more than one patient in ten) are musculoskeletal
common side effects found to be common were:
Urinary tract infection
Upper respiratory tract infection
Sciatica
Cataracts
constipation
rashes
Eczema
AND VERY COMMON
Pain in extremity
Musculoskeletal pain
pain in the extremity.
Musculoskeletal pain, including severe cases, has been reported in patients receiving Prolia in the
post-marketing setting. In clinical trials, musculoskeletal pain was very common in both denosumab
and placebo groups.
I cannot post the link but you can find it on your own. AMGN has a market cap of $129.131B. They need to pump that pipeline.
do your own due diligence folks.
can you assure that after increase in bone density in your hips, it will not break if you fall down?
@smtamt my mom has been taking Prolia for years. Her primary care says her bone density was good. In July she fell, broke her hip and both her thumbs. So, I believe there is no assurance in taking Prolia that when you fall you won’t break a hip.
That is one of my concerns. I went on Fosamax briefly many years ago, and subsequently learned there were severe side effects, and fractures in other areas. Sigh...what to do???
smtamt: come on....no one assures anything anymore. That is why I worry about side effects. I workout at a gym a LOT, but still I know my next dexa scan will not be good. SiGH
Can you provide details of your mother’s T-score in the hips (i.e, Femur Neck Left, Femur Neck Right ) and also T-Score of AP spine? Has bone mass increased significantly in both of her hips? If bone density increased, then why the hips broke after her fall?
is there any guarantee that increased bone density will lead to less fracture? I have heard from someone that though her bone density increased, she broke her hips after fall.
