Searching natural remedy on AMD (Age-related Macular Degenation

Posted by satimis @satimis, Aug 5 8:41am

I was diagnosed suffering AMD (Age-related Macula Degenation) on early July, 2025. My left-eye has blurry vision on enter but no other symptoms found. I suspect being suffered on dry AMD because my left eye still able seeing straight lines.

I have been diagnosed suffering diabetes since 2006 but it is quite stable up to now. Also I have had blood and urea tests on early July but nothing abnormal found. My care doctor said my AMD is not caused by Diabetes in the eyes. I also have ultrasonic test on my neck but nothing abnormal found.

I have had the 1st injection of aflibercept (eylea) on July 25, 2025 but with no improvement. I'll have the second aflibercept injection on the coming August 20, 2025.

I'm now in anticipation to find natural remedy to AMD but nothing found on Internet searching.

Pls advise. Thanks in advance.

Regards

The bare-bones list of harmful foods/food habits for eye health & AMD: Harmful Foods (to Limit/Avoid)
1. French fries & potato chips (acrylamide, AGEs, oxidized oils) Eat Lays Baked chips instead.
2. Burnt toast & over-browned baked goods (acrylamide)
3. Bacon, hot dogs, deli meats, smoked meats (nitrosamines, oxidized fats) Eat rarely. Microwave bacon. Uncured is better.
4. Cookies, cakes, pastries, donuts (sugar, acrylamide, trans fats)
5. Fried fast food (oxidized seed oils, AGEs)
6. Packaged snack foods (chips, crackers, margarine with seed oils)
7. Charred/grilled red meat & BBQ (HCAs, PAHs, AGEs)
8. Instant coffee (excess) (higher acrylamide than brewed)
9. Sugary drinks (soda, sweetened teas, energy drinks — drive oxidative stress)
You can take AEDS2 and eat salmon and green vegetables but if you are eating these harmful foods as well then you are simply robbing Peter to pay Paul. There are scientific articles you can find on each of these harmful food categories and how they directly damage eye health.

My retina specialist told me to eat for my eyes the same I would for my heart. Research has found the blood vessels in both are very similar. I'm 57, I was told I have AMD 3 years ago but found out via requesting my records that I've actually had it for at the least 7 years and guess what they never told me and when they did it wasn't treated like a big deal .. my vision is still very good. I eat a lot good healthy foods all day every day. I take AREDS, vitamin c, turmeric, antioxidant vitamins, I add antioxidant fruit powders and flax seed to my smoothies.... I walk n exercise in some way every day. I pray to Saint Lucy patron saint of sight. I pray a cure comes along. I cry about it but I try not to think about it. I don't why I have it so young. Luckily, research and science has a long way for us... There's more today then even 5 years ago. I had someone with AMD tell this isn't a blind death sentence, I keep that in the back of my head. My retina doctor told me she has patients who not progressed in decades. My friend in England has had it 17 years and still sees and drives etc. try not to let it bother you much .. if you do it will consume your life. I hope I live to be your age and have my vision and complete independence. 😊

I may have also told you that you don't have to ever lose your driver's license. That's what my RD told me (right after he said my dry left eye will definitely turn wet eventually)

Hi Mostlyjackie, I'm not sure if you did but that's great news. Someone else on here told me the same thing, that he will never lose his ability to drive. I knew it was someone in this group chat who mentioned that little phrase to "it's not a blind death sentence". Thank you so much it really helps my days whenever darkness starts to set in. No pun intended.
I do apologize for the typos
I try to spell check but sometimes I forget.
What does your RD say about the other eye? I will keep you in my prayers
I have an Retina appointment 10/1.. everything including the AG look the same to me. Hopefully my diet is paying off.

My eye surgeon's nurse called back and said Yes, I am to take the AREDS 2 per instructions on the bottle as brands can be different. So, I will continue to take them. I see the surgeon for a check up in December this year. I'll ask him personally and my guess is he will tell me to take them "for life" as well as the Timolol. I had cataracts removed in February 2025. He checks me every 4 months. Not sure how often I'll see him after next year. By the way, the surgery was successful. I can see in high definition now. Things I thought were grey are actually blue or green. I will need glasses for life, and we knew that, but the fog and darkness is gone. Now this silly issue of AREDS 2 Have a great day everyone. Thanks for the support and oh my, the kindness of everyone is wonderful.

I'm confused (nothing new there!). But if you lose your central vision, how can you drive? Thanks.

I think my RD was thinking that if you continue to get the injections, you WON'T lose your central vision?

Just came back from the OCT scan and retina appt I schedule every 6 months and the Doctor said the photomodulation treatment is now available in Clinics for dry AMD. Cost 6000. The official Valeda Locator is the fastest way to see up-to-date sites near you that offer the red light treatment. I'm waiting to see if it cones down in price. That's too much money Not covered by insurances yet.

My right eye remains stable (it's wet). I get a shot of Vabysmo every 6 months (I've been extending each time). I don't really worry about it much. If your eyes are both dry, you should look at the data. You are likely to stay that way!

The chewables are good for me. I have trouble swallowing those huge pills. They don't upset me at all. I was surprised to read that some people have problems with them. I've just been put on Metformin, those really affected me at first.

I was on the chewables for months but they are filled with berry juice( to disguise the medicinal taste) and affected my latex/fruit syndrome causing my throat to swell and close up..thank goodness I found the Provision ARES..hard to swallow but effective!
