Is it possible to stay off bone drugs altogether
Wondering if it is possible to stay off bone drugs altogether by taking bone supplements, working out with weights, walking and a bone healthy diet?

Unfortunately, my last dexa scan came back 7% lower bone density. I upped everything the last year (weights lifting, a lot of squats, cut back on sugar, and alcohol . I was so surprised at my numbers. Very disappointed.
I was taking Native path for nearly a year, then switched to AlgaeCal .
I just stopped the powder, and ordered the AlgaeCal Plus and Strontium Boost. I’ll give it a try the next year. Hopefully I won’t have problems with the Strontium as I have a pacemaker, and mitral valve repair.
I’m 75 year old and have Afib. My cardiologist said I should be ok taking it .we will see.

1 ReactionThis is all so challenging for us! My understanding is that Strontium cab give a false indicator of bone density on the Dexa Scan. Google search with AI results: "Strontium supplementation can affect DEXA (Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry) scans. Strontium, when incorporated into bone, can cause artificially inflated bone density readings on DEXA scans due to its higher atomic weight compared to calcium, according to Symbiosis Online Publishing. This means that even if there isn't a true increase in bone mass, the DEXA scan may show a higher bone mineral density (BMD) than it should. "

1 ReactionI had flu like sude effects from my Reclast infusion last year and wanted to stop it. My Endocrinologist convinced me to try again with 3 days of a pill prior to going in for the infusion. Will let you know how it goes this time. I have my infusion
appointment next week.

3 ReactionsStudies I read though, showed statistically lower fracture rates with strontium. In some countries, strontium is prescribed for osteoporosis with good results lowering fractures. Isn’t that the goal?

2 ReactionsWell if that’s so, is there a different test that can show any bone density changes? I’ll google it too.

1 ReactionSo having a cat scan is another way to measure bone density but I have a feeling the strontium might give false positive results as well.
Maybe I can talk to an imaging technician specialist.

2 ReactionsI had an ablation for afib - now sinus rhythm I take strontium citrate with my primary doc(geriatrician) and endocrinologist consent.
The reason why strontium citrate was studied because strontium is actually needed for bone. Because of artificial, fertilizers, used in our mass produced food, it was postulated that adding strontium would help bone. The amount of strontium a person gets naturally is from the soil in which their food is grown. It would, seem eating exclusively organic, would give more natural strontium but, again, it depends on the soil in which those foods are grown.
