How are you dealing with fatigue and constipation in PD?

Posted by Starbright @gulfer, Jul 16, 2017

My mom told me today she is having extreme fatigue today. She was ok yesterday. She is also experiencing constipation problem. I will suggest her probiotic vitamins or supplements besides leafy veggies or salad. Do you think that might be a good idea to get probiotics or not? Also what would you recommend her for extreme fatique? What might cause that? She is wondering if that fatigue and constipation is a side effect of pexola? We really need your suggestions pleas.
Thank you!-Gulfer

I suggest talking with your neurolgist about this. Gut health is important for everyone, but my neurologist says it is it especially important for Parkinsons'. Perhaps your neurologist may recommend a particiular probiotic. Also, constipation is a loyal fellow-traveler with Parkinsons so ask your doctor what the best way for managing it is for you. I take a fiber drink. (and also keeping sufficietly hydrated is essential. And, of course all the old saws about getting moving around and exercising come into play, as well, and Parkinson's doesn't make getting exercisse easy, but it is important in general for everyone and lack of exercise can be a factor in constipatioin as well.

@hopeful33250 I am going to back away from this group. I wish everyone the very best of medical care and finding solutions to this terrible disease. However, I find that it is not good for my mental health to keep reading the posts and going back to trying to figure out what I could have done better for my Tom. I will keep each of you in my prayers and pray for positive results. You are all important to me but I need to take care of me right now.

I recently read an article about a dr. who recommended eating two Kiwi fruits every day for constipation. I think I'll try it and see.

My wife has had on and off constipation for ten years with her PD but has recently had great success with a prebiotic and probiotic pill once per day. I have had PD for three years and found success drinking a cup of warm water with four tablespoons of lemon juice first thing in the morning before any other food or liquids. This is also reported be good to cleanse the liver.

Best wishes, Joe
