Is there a reason you don’t want to go on Prolia? I’ve had that suggested for me.
Sorry you are experiencing the joint pain. I see the dr next Tuesday. I know that joint pain is the most common side effect. Very hard though to be woken up by this intense knee and other joint pain. Also the insomnia doesn’t help!
This is the first osteoporosis med I’ve been on. So yes, pushing through! Three down, 9 to go. I set appointments through the end of the year to have them scheduled. Makes it easier to check schedule and any potential travel.
I am anxious to see results of next scan in 2 months!
It's because of the rebound effect. During your time on Prolia, your body continues to produce the bone-breakdown cells called osteoclasts but they don't mature fully. Instead, they accumulate and when you stop the drug, they develop to maturity and go to work breaking down bone. This flurry of bone destruction weakens your bones and can cause multiple fractures soon after stopping the drug.
This means you must stay on the drug for the rest of your life or go through more treatment with other drugs like Reclast or alendronate if you come off Prolia.
I am 64 and hopefully have many more years to live and deal with this disease. I think there is a time and a place for Prolia but I hope to push it out as long as I can.

4 ReactionsThank you - you, too. It's unfortunate but I try to look at it positively, like maybe the drug is working. My next DEXA isn't for another year.
I'd rather get a monthly shot than inject daily and have to deal with managing the medication while traveling.
I also don't have the other side effects I did with Tymlos and Forteo so it balances out.
Good luck, let us know how your scan looks.
Thanks so much for this information.
Just met with my Osteoporosis specialist, Diagnosed 3 years ago and tried to treat with diet and exercise but my numbers have advanced. I was told Evenity and if my numbers rose Reclast to maintain

2 ReactionsI am on my 7th shot of Evenity (no issues) so I might be starting Reclast early next year. Glad you have a plan now. I will keep the forum updated on my experience with Reclast. I also have a Dexa in November 2025 so I can see how Evenity is doing.

3 ReactionsI have had dizziness, headache, and tinnitus after starting Evenity. I had an MRI of my brain, lab tests, and everything is normal. I stopped my statin, thinking this was the problem, but my symptoms did not improve. Has anyone had the same experience? I have had 5 injections so far, and symptoms are getting worse.
@carinmd452 , I’m researching this for my mom. She’s 85 and in nursing home rehab after falling and breaking her arm. It’s not healing well at all. They say it may take a year.
Due to her condition, Ortho suggests Evenity. She does have Osteoporosis, but not sure how bad. She can’t recall details. She has a number of health issues and is barely mobile. Due to her neuropathy, future falls are likely. She’s often nauseous, dizzy, in pain, has high BP spikes, anxiety, gout, etc. She says she doesn’t want to take anything for osteoporosis. She hates meds, but takes what is required. Ortho explained the statistics on having fall/fracture in the future…should I encourage her or just let it go? She doesn’t have dementia so it’s her decision. At this point I just want her comfortable.
@carinmd452 Hello,
I too have had tinnitus and sl dizziness after Evenity. I also have had numbness in my face. The doctor checked my calcium as Evenity can lower it and ionized and serum calcium were normal. I took just two months of shots and am now on a 2 month vacation from Evenity, but feel I should go back on it, due to my history of compression fractures last year. So difficult to make these decisions.
