Increase in BP while using Evenity
Has anyone experienced a rise in their blood pressure while receiving Evenity injections? My BP has gone into stage 2 hypertension after 3 months, the only change in my "lifestyle" has been the injections. I get 8000-11000 steps per day, spend 20 minutes 4 days a week strength training and eat a clean homemade diet, GF, alcohol and smoke free. My MD says high BP is not a known side effect of taking the injections. My response was then why the FDA box warning regarding cardio issues.

I started Evenity 2-1/2 months ago, and I have had the same thing happen to me--an inexplicable rise in blood pressure. There have been no other changes in my life. How did you resolve this issue?
Hello, I have had a rise in BP too, have had 5 shots, but noticed a couple month in. I am also very active, eat well and haven't changed anything. Did either of you get in answers or have either of you seen any change?
Hi, I met with my primary doctor, she ran some bloodwork. It didn’t show anything. We discussed my activities etc. long story short, I had been taking otc allergy medication, I stopped using it and my BP was in the normal range. She reinforced what my endocrinologist said which was there was any research indicating Evenity caused BP issues. Hope this helps.
Hi,
I started tracking my BP after my second set of Evenity injections. I noticed the spike about 3 to 4 days after the injections. I looked at the detailed description of Evenity. It indicated that the maximum serum concentration occurs 5 days after injection. My BP previously ran about 123/
82. After injection, it was 148 /90. Day 4 it was 151/101. I never had a reading like that in my life. I went to the ER to make sure I was OK. I decided to stop Evenity injections after dose 6. I also had changes in my bloodwork. I contacted AMGEN and spoke to a nurse. I told her my side effects and gave her the flagged markers on my bloodwork. I hope this helps.
Thank you for your post. I have struggled with keeping my BP under control for years. It is very stable now and my Dr is advocating for Evenity. I have read of this side effect on this site and can’t take that risk.
Hi, drummergirl,
I hear your concerns. It's important to discuss them with your doctor . My experience may not be your experience . Everyone's body reacts differently to these drugs. Most people do fine that takes this drug. However, I have always been sensitive to medications and reported my side effects to AMGEN , the company that makes Evenity. Best wishes on your bone health journey.
Thanks for sharing. I just now went and checked my BP and fortunately that’s one side effect I’m not experiencing. Still, I have decided to no longer take a Evenity because of the many other painful effects.
I have had 5 doses and now my BP is high. It was always quite low my whole life and I am 71. I am not sure what to do about this. I wonder about taking a 2 month pause from Evenity to see if that is the cause. It stays in your system for 64 days. Has anyone tried this?
I posted on this site about two months ago. This was just after having a high BP reading during a regular check-up. Nothing had changed in my life to cause this--except that I had been on Evenity for about 3 months. I slightly increased the dosage of my BP meds, with the approval of my primary care doctor, and also, just for the heck of it, I added a vitamin that reportedly helps stabilize one's BP (hawthorne). This combo seemed to have stabilized my BP, but yesterday, two shots after my June 25 post, my BP is again elevated. I wanted to get as many Evenity shots as possible under my belt since the medication seems to been working, but I now, after 5 shots, I may have to rethink this. One problem that I have encountered is that my doctors do not seem to be taking this rise in BP seriously. When I first posted on this site two months ago looking to see if others had experienced the same issue, there was only one comment. I now see that a few others have experienced elevated BP. This tells me that I am not imaging the problem.
I just posted a comment on this site. Please take a look at it, and if you feel like adding an observation, do so. I had thought that I had my BP sufficiently under control to continue taking Evenity. Now I am not so sure. Last night; I had a BP reading of 161/143. This, in the vernacular of our generation "freaked me out."
