@lindylou

I experienced just what you described about a year ago. I had the white coating on both sides of my checks and in the back of my throat. My gums had a fire red look to them that burned when I ate. They sent me to an oral surgeon who did a biopsy that was sent to the University of Iowa College of Dentistry. The biopsy came back as Lichen planus. I understand your frustration since I am a diabetic also. I hope this will give you another avenue to check into. Good Luck!

Thank you so for your info. The only thing I have is a white tongue with a soft growth on it.
My dentist said to brush my tongue. My ENT doctor said from the test he did it came out negetive. He did a swab on my tongue and a thorough check of my mouth throat etc. My dentist said get a tongue brush. Where to I go from here?
I am worried and depressed and no one seems to find anything. Even my doctor said it was "thrush". He gave me medication but it did not help the problem. Anyone......please give me some advise. I am at the end!!!!!!!
Patti
---- Mayo Clinic Connect wrote:

I'm so overwhelmed right now. I've got so much to do today. I want to accomplish things like take a shower, make the bed, make a list of my current meds for my doctors and to make notes of what I want to tell each doctor I see. It's not going to happen in the condition I am in. When I turned on my computer there were several posts that I WANT to write back to but I just can't think straight right now. I am not ignoring you at the moment but i do hope to feel better (hopefully) later today. I do care about all of you. I just need to rest now. Thanks for listening..

@brit, I surely can understand that you are at your wit's end. I agree with the helpful advice that you've received from Liz and LindyLou. It may require getting a second or even third opinion.
I might also suggest that you post in the Ear, Nose & Throat group here: http://mayocl.in/2br0RWf

@brit, I certainly understand not having extra money to pay for doctors and second opinions. However, you are very concerned and frustrated about what's happening with your tongue and not feeling that you have gotten a good diagnosis yet. Therefore, I think it is in your best interests to get a second opinion from another ENT. For your own peace of mind, it will help assure you that things are OK or not, in which case, you can take next steps. Worrying will just make things worse, and could lead to complications if you don't catch a possible problem early. I recommend that you spend what it takes to see another doctor soon. Gail B.

So good for you to give me your support. I am on a medication and my husband wants me to wait a couple of weeks to see if it help calm my frame of mind.
I have already been to my family doctor ENT and my dentist. No one seems to feel like there is a problem. Its very frustrating.
Thanks again fro your kind words

I'm so happy to hear that you have a plan for how to deal with your concerns. I know after I began taking Citalopram many of my concerns were alleviated. I hope the same will be true for you with your medication. Gail B.

@ihatediabetes That sounds like quite a workout. You are highly motivated to make it through! How long does the program last? Teresa

I do have a couple of suggestions.
1. Since the meds are too expensive, ask your ENT to prescribe a less expensive one, or a generic version if there is one.
2. If there is no less-expensive med, ask your doctor if he/she can assist you to get help from the medication producer to make it free or dramatically reduce the cost to you.
3. If you can't obtain the doctor's help, go on-line and ask Google the question. You may/probably will find there is help available. Be careful to get a legitimate site for help. Best of luck resolving your problem Patti.

Gail B.

Many companies do provide reduced costs for patients who cannot afford, but need the medications they produce.
