What often (always?) works is to stock up with ever More Healthy Pleasures. As you can see the space we give now for unhealthy pleasures (alcohol, gambling, the list is long) will necessarily shrink as you store up more with the other kind.
In other words: Kick off bad pleasures with sublime ones such as (and most important) of Friends who you can truly enjoy your life's ups and share the downs with.

Other pleasures to replace the bad ones are as Being Curious about the world and all life in it. Well it's vast so pick the area that interests You. Remember this dude who got the Nobel Prize in physics and said: This is just a little colorful piece of thread on my shoulder. Because the real (good) pleasure is "Finding." (well he wrote a book, The Pleasure of finding Things Out) But remember how curious we were as babies, darting our eyes in every direction -- of color, of sound, and....?

I truly hope you will find More (sublime) Pleasures in your life ... and the need for bad pleasures will fade into oblivion. We all do here on Mayo, for each other.

Keep that chip in your pocket or wallet. It's a tangible reminder. Loosen up at the meetings, get to know the people. Talk with them. Listen to them. Hear them. Tell them what you're about. Let them get to know you, the real you. Open up in the meetings. Start bearing your soul, little by little as you feel comfortable. One step at a time. It's not therapy but in a way it is. The nice thing is that in an AA group I don't think that you can say anything stupid or embarassing, or at least your fellow AAs won't read it that way. We all have our stories to tell. Put going to AA meetings above all else. If you absolutely can't make your regular meeting, go to another. There are lots out there. Meeting makers make it.

Your giving great advice here as your sobriety has to be number one in your life above everything else as other wise the rest of your life is a mess. Never give up as you’ll find your way. I have 42 yrs straight line sobriety but didn’t happen on my first or second try so never give up!

CONGRATULATIONS. I have had anxiety my whole life, I just realized it later in life.
I asked my Dr. for medication. He asked "how long have you had this?" I told him that I think that I have always had it and that I am just realizing it. He said that is what most folks say, he gave me a prescription. I think I took 1 pill. I don't care for medicine. What I do now is exercise, pray, take vitamins including B-complex.
More people than you know have anxiety for various reasons. Think Positive. This too shall pass.

This is from Dr. Andrew Weils website. The B vitamins play important roles in energy production, the synthesis and repair of DNA and RNA, and carbohydrate, protein and fat metabolism. They may also help calm and maintain a healthy nervous system, and can be important in the maintenance of healthy skin and muscle tone.

I give myself B12 shots every month. It helps with depression, at least for me.

My Mother used to say, "This too shall pass! I hated hearing that because it made me feel like my problem(s) were insignificant.

Thanks so much for all the helpful info. I'm going to check into it as I also suffer with anxieties, low energy sometimes and it wouldn't hurt to improve the muscle tone.

If you do decide to take a B-Complex Vitamin please get a quality Vitamin, not a grocery store Vitamin. I do get mine from COSTCO or VITACOST. They both have Web sites.
